Cleaning Scrubs. Need a consensus.

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hi,

I'm not a Nurse. I am a Patient Companion. I perform 1:1s in the hospital. Some may call me a sitter but I do much more than that.

Anyway, I work five days a week. I like Cherokee scrubs the best. I have 7 pairs so I wash them once a week. When I started my job, I read wash them in cold water and dry at a cool temperature. Well they seem to fade and get pilly.

Can I get a consensus on how to clean my scrubs and the best shot at avoiding the pilliness and have them not fade after four washings?

TIA!

I changed brands to Dickies Everyday Scrubs. More durable and keep their color much better.

Thanks, I like Dickies but the medium pants ran long for me and didn't want to try the small. Just bought 6 pairs of Cherokees with brighter colors.

This may be too much effort, but I air dry all of my scrubs. I just pop them on hangers and hang them from my shower curtain rod. Because the material is synthetic, they dry very quickly within a couple of hours. You can also try a gentler detergent (like Woolite), and turn them inside out while washing/drying to prevent pilling.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is probably to buy a different brand.

Thanks. I'm hanging them now and pre treated new scrubs. Delicate dry and I always turn inside out. Woolite seems like a good idea. The Cherokees look great when you first buy them. Hopefully more TLC will keep them looking better. Thanks!

I wash my scrubs in cold water and air dry them on their hangers. I haven't had any issues with pilling/wrinkling. Good luck!

What does the cleaning instructions on the tag that is sewn into the garment say? Mine say machine wash cold and tumble dry low. If you follow the recommended washing instructions and they still faded/pilled, I would contact customer service and complain and request replacement or refund.
