Clean stick needle change

Recently I saw a coworker accidentally stick themselves with a clean needle. They replaced the needle with a new one and got ready to inject a vaccine. They told me it was standard to replace the needle but not the syringe. Does anyone have literature or know a site that would agree with this? Or know if this is true i cant find the situation on any websites ive seen. Thanks for your time, and no they didnt stick with it since i was concerned

Stuck myself once with a clean needle I was about to use to inject medication into a saline bag. Threw away the entire needle and redrew the medication. I know I don't have anything contagious, but to just change the needle and keep the syringe sounds kind of icky to me.

I tried to find any study/source that specifically addressed this situation. I couldn't find any information outside what previous posters have said.

My nursing judgment and concern with patient safety would dictate I start from scratch.

Really???...........This is actually being debated???........YOU THROW BOTH THE NEEDLE AND SYRINGE IN THE SHARPS BOX!!!

When in doubt, throw it out!!!

I would throw both out. I know when I accidentally stabbed myself trying to mix cardizem the old fashion way, my finger bled a lot when the needle went through the bag into my thumb (it's been years since I had to mix stuff the old way in the squad, it's mostly premixed now). I am glad that my other hospitals have pharmacists mixing stuff or they have needless mixers. Like our cardizem mixtures don't require to be drawn up. It's a screw top onto the bag.
