Clayton State University Spring 2018 Cohort

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello All,

I am applying for Clayton States Nursing Program for Spring 2018. I just took the Kaplan on the 6th and wanted to see who else is applying with me this semester! I made a 76 on the Kaplan and I have a 3.52 GPA. For anyone else who wants to join this forum on our journey to Nursing School this semester you're more than welcomed !!! Add your stats too !

Very impressive! With scores like those, you'll definitely get in.

I've talked to a lot of people and there really is no method or sense of how people get in based off of their stats. It's driving me crazy hearing lots of very different stats and who has gotten in with what. To be safe, and lessen the blow if it happens, just be prepared to not get in. And if we do, it'll be that much better. But always have a backup plan.

I have not, I REPEAT, I HAVE NOT verified this info with anyone at CSU, but I think this is how they select applicants... at least it is what I would do:

1. They look at academics. Since numbers may vary, I believe they average your academics. For example:

Best Criteria

Overall GPA: (3.4/4)*100 = 85

Math/Sci GPA: (3.4/4)*100 = 85

KNAT Score: (85/91)*100 = 93

Sum/300 total pts=====> = 87.7 (this is the well qualified average for entrance)

They probably do this for all the students and rank them. So in other words, the less applicants there are, the less competition there is to compare your academics to.

2. They take into consideration the attempts at math/science courses and prereqs remaining. Say for example, Person A attempted A&P once and received an A. Person B had a D the first time, retook the course and passed with an A. I would favor the person who received an A the first time. Furthermore, a person who has more prereqs remaining is more likely to stay, finish their prereqs and apply a second time during the next cycle if they were to be rejected the first time.

3. Lastly, I think they use the interview to break up ties between similarly qualfied applicants and that is why this plays such a minor role in the admissions process.

@Jmart11 Great stats ! Congratulations as well on the high Kaplan score. Its getting closer to October and my advisor, said that early-October is when decisions begin to go out for those who are ineligible. The second group of letters are for those who are eligible but not competitive. Then the students who are left have interviews, and the last set of letters are to those who have been waist listed or accepted. This is the general breakdown of what to expect over the next month or two . In past forums I've read were not hearing back in early October means that you've made it to another round in the process...

@pandalele I commend you for continuing to pursue your dreams and not letting our advisors discourage you! I've had a similar situation happen to me in the past. I'd always rather take a chance, than to live with regret.

Thanks for the tentative schedule! I had somewhat of an idea, and no news is good news early on. I really hope it's true that not as many people apply for Spring than Fall. Definitely getting more anxious to know what's going to happen. I just want my chance at this so bad. And I really don't see me attending any other school. I know I"m supposed to be here.

I'm getting anxious as well, because I know it's getting closer to October. All we can do is pray and wait, and try to keep ourselves as busy as possible so that maybe the process will go by a little faster.

@slong15 Thank you! Most of my bad grades came from my first year or 2 in college, however, there has been an upward trend since then. I truly feel that if the nursing committee cannot appreciate my turnaround, then I really don't belong here to begin with. I'm hoping that they will look at the overall package I bring instead of focusing on a GPA, but if not, I am prepared to graduate in spring instead and apply to graduate school.

@pandalele I agree with your comment on the nursing committee. One requirement shouldn't be the deal breaker for the remainder of the application process. Either way you'll come out on top because graduating from college and going to graduate school are two huge accomplishments by themselves!

This is my first time applying to CSU nursing program. My Knat score was 76, my overall Gpa is 3.85, math and science gpa is around 3.8. I am so nervous. I hope to get accepted.

@chelsea119 Impressive academic GPA! Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get in :)

@chelsea119 Glad to have you on the forum, and your stats seem pretty competitive! You should do fine!
