Hi sharrie, I was was just reading some of your blogs and see you have a lot going on. How did you become invloved with the Allnurses website and are you using it as another way to use your education background or to get back into teaching?

I can't honestly remember, I think I did a search whilst looking for a project and just stuck around.

Congrats yourself : ) What are you going to do with this degree? It seems that you've done it all thus far. Anything new on the nursing front in the UK? Just curious, how often do you get to ride your bike?

Just curious, how often do you get to ride your bike and how did you get into riding? The rest of the questions are school related. I have to write a paper on our interaction.

Thanks for taking time to chat with me :)

1. Could you tell me the name of the school you are attending.

2. Do you have a family? If so how have they influenced your career path.

3. If you could change one thing about your current health care system what would it be and why?

4. What one big issue dealing with the nurses in your country?

5. Anything you think will be of interest please share

of course, here you go

:)

1. could you tell me the name of the school you are attending.

university of wales

2. do you have a family? if so how have they influenced your career path.

yes and very much so, my grandmother was a nurse and so was my mother, sisters and grandfather. it was never something i wanted to do but ended up training as a nurse. granny was very critical of everything and we didn't really get along, i always tried to impress her but always felt i was a disappointment. when i qualified it wasn't enough. it was only when she got very sick in her last 5 years of life i really got close to her, and through that realised that she drove me so hard because she had struggled to be accepted (she had come from india in the 50's and being non white it was a difficult time for her) through her last few years we became extremely close and it was only then that i realised how proud she was of my achievements.

3. if you could change one thing about your current health care system what would it be and why?

not sure, there are many things that need improvements, i would like to see more nurses on the wards with them having access to the training and education needed to provide a good patient care. rather than being told that there is no money for agency staff and that the education budget is spent out so any courses would have to be self funded.

4. what one big issue dealing with the nurses in your country?

i guess the staffing levels and our ability to provide good patient care

5. anything you think will be of interest please share

Thank for the info. Whats the nursing to patient ratio in wales, for example Illinois, it 4pt to 1 nurse. Also could you tell me about you and motorcycles. When did you start riding, why motorcycles and how often do you get to ride?

The nursing : patient ratio depends on where you work, right now we have 6/7 patients per nurse during day shifts and 10 :1 on a night shift.

Motorbikes, these are my passion, I started riding about 15 years ago. My dad has always ridden bikes and my hubbie also rides (although we were just friends back then). I've always loved bikes so took my test and now I hardly ever drive a car. I ride every day to and from work. Working in a city it's so much easier than fighting with traffic and sitting in queues. On the weekends and days off I ride for pleasure as well, I live in some beautiful countrysides so I like nothing better then going out for a blast around the mountain roads to de-stress. Most of our holidays are motorcycle touring holidays across Europe.

Since last year I've ridden 14,000 miles on my bike. I also like to do quite a bit of charity work on my motorbike as well, I am involved in something every year, this was the one I am most proud of

What is heartbreaking is that one of the ladies that I did this with (Gill) finally lost her battle against breast cancer a little while ago, it makes me quite sad to read what we did together now but also incredibly proud to have ridden alongside such an outstanding and determined lady.
