Class days/Length for nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi all, I had a quick question for yah. When going to nursing school, what js the structure of the classes? How many days a week, how many hours a day? Are the clinicals mixed in with the didactic? How realistic is working while in class?

Depends on your program and you personally. My program is 5 days a week, basically 9-4 Monday-Friday. One if those days is at the hospital doing clinicals and the rest are lecture & lab times.

I work 8 hours on Saturdays and use Sunday as my study day. However, at this point I could probably survive working both Saturday and Sunday then doing homework in the evenings. But I would be exhausted, cranky and have much less time to spend with my husband and kids. Plus I probably wouldn't have an A average anymore, which is important to me.

I am a 2nd year student in a 2 yr program. Currently, we have class (lecture) two days a week for 3 hrs per day and we have clinicals 2 days a week for 8.50 hrs per day as well as a 3 hr 'clinical' in which we go to the floor (assessment is what its called for us), get all our info on our patient for the next day, do a physical assessment etc. This class in the 1st 1/2 of the semester was structured the same way.

I work full time from home. I'm lucky because I get to make my own schedule and my job doesn't care what days/times I work as long as I get in a certain amount of hours between Monday and Sunday. I have watched others in class with jobs really struggling. It's not easy to do both. That's not to say it can't be done, I know because *I* am doing it right now. But these classes are intense I'm in right now and because its a condensed class in terms of time frame we get slammed with an incredible amount of reading, quizzes, tests, papers etc. Which means you need much more time to study the material b/c there is just so much!

My best advice, don't work if you don't have to, if you have to work and can survive on less money then cut back your hours. And if you can't stop working or cut down on your hours, you're going to have to be sure to be very conscious of time management :)
