choosing between neuro and geriatric med-surg?

Specializes in CCU.

Could you all share your experiences, preferences and opinions regarding neuro and geriatric med-surg. I am trying to decide between these two units and would love to do them both....but I'd need more days in a week! thank you!

If you're trying to decide where to apply, apply to both. If you already have offers in both, I would choose neuro. Well, I'm kinda biased considering I work in neuro--a M/S/Neuro floor. If geriatrics is what's attracting you to ger/M/S, well, you'll definitely get that in neuro. Most of my pts in neuro are older adults and you also get the M/S component because many pts there are there for surgeries and other medical problems. Some of the most common diagnoses on my neuro floor (excluding the surgical pts) are 'altered mental status' and of course, TIAs/CVAs.

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.
