Choosing Good LPN School in/near Chicago?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

I would really appreciate all your guys help!! I have narrowed down my choices for LPN School here in Chicago.

My 3 choices are

-International Career Institute (ICI)

-Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology

-Ambria College of Nursing (Americare Institute)

I met with someone for all except Ambria wich i will be attending the info session this friday, but so far i really liked ICI the best, I just liked the admissions person I met with and felt like I could see myself there. Northwestern felt a little more iffy but I have seen the Pass Rates and theres are pretty good, so Im sure its still a good school. And I have heard many good things about America/Ambria. Im just really confused and would like your input!! Im hopefullly going to make my decison by next week! Also I am very nervous about the Math and Anatomy pre-reqs for some of these schools, if anyones taken them with any of them can you let me know what exactyl the classes were about?

Thanks!!!

Wait..what are they being sued for?? I didn't know that. I'm applying to St. Xavier, University of Saint Francis, Northwestern College, MAYBE Wright...I was going to apply to CSU but I'm not taking 2 foreign language classes, so that's out..lol I need a school that has Title IV financial aid, it's not possible for me to pay out of pocket. I'm not sure what other schools there are...

Yes they were, I mean when I first googled americare they're on ripoffreport.com but when I went to the infosession the president said not to believe that and that they were lies, so hmm sketchyv that he even mentioned it! Lol and I guess students got angry with the way things were so they tried sueing them, idk if anything ever came out of it or nottt but that's just what I heard! I didn't kno ambria was that unfair until that person who didn't reccomend it told me evrything from when she was a student there. So I honestly don't know I'm half and half like its a good school then I wonder if its just a rip off! Yeah well have u consideered that wia grant? Or loans? Because honestly I chose sxu when I was younger cuz they offered me the most fin. Aid. But now I have loans like crazy so either way I'm still going to be paying back over 6000 when I'm finished! And that's to sxu not even j renee. Hopefully ill be able to not pay much at j renee because I have a lot of savings, and if ican get a wia grant if not then idk I gotta work hard to pay it bak lol but yeah keep that in mind about ambria I really thought it was the best but maybe its not so great in actuality

WOW.. interesting! Yah, seriously, why would he even bring it up.. but I know every school has it's good and bad points.. I can't get the WIA grant.. I got it like 5 years ago for something stupid.. I was going through a bad divorce and had been a SAHM for 10 years.. I wasn't in the right frame of mind to understand that I could have actually went to school for almost anything and just went for the job I was working at, which wasn't even a "career" type job.. live and learn. I'm a single mom and I'm unemployed.. so I need financial aid... I have friends who are getting done with school owing 50,000-80,000 so seriously, 6,000 isn't bad. :)

Ohhh i see, yeah 6000 isnt bad considering i didnt go the full 4 years! well you should call up northwestern institute and j renee and ask if they know how their progresss is going with getting financial aid, I know both admissions ladys told me they were waiting to hear from the government about it and they both said they were hoping to hear something within the next weeks/month(s). I was thinking of contacting northwestern institiute again and asking if I could possibly get a tour because when I went in to speak to someone I was literally out in 15 mins, the lady really rushed me through, welll, maybe then I can ask them how their financial aid progress is going! I mean I would love to go sumwhere with help also, So at leaset j renee is trying and so is Northwestern, I mean at j renee the lady told me they had already recieved their school code but it was not activated because they were only waiting on the final approval so i think thats a good thing? And with northwestern the lady did tell me they were hoping by this summer for sure to have financial aid.

That's good that J Renee at least already has a school code. I went to NW Institute months ago.. like maybe October.. and they told me that they would probably be getting it when their school opened up in Skokie..I think they said because that school would have it.. Well, I just called last week, and they still don't have it.. and I mentioned on here MONTHS ago how they said that they would be getting it soon and one girl said that she had gone like a year before or maybe even two years before or something like that and they said back then they were gonna get it soon.. I don't think they are going to be getting it anytime soon! But I'm not applying there.. I was talking about Northwestern College..the one in Bridgeview has the nursing program...it's ADN Someone on here said that they were just at NW Institute and they had the license or whatever it is for Title IV and they took a picture of it with their phone but didn't know how to post it..but that's ********..lol they don't have it.

yes the bmc in merrillville ....to be honest sometimes i feel they got shady politics but you get what you put in!!! pre-reqs are english math psychology a&p one class on study habits and i think thats it so the actual program is 1 yr if u have the other classes they might transfer over so you shave off at least 3 or more months ummm its cool i like it i have 3 months left :)

Hi, just wanted to let u knoo I started with j Renee. And wow its been a little unorganized, I signed up for two prerequisites that were to start in June, point if the story they just started like this week. They rescheduled my classes like 4 times, I mean I really can't say its a huge problem for me because as long as I still have time to get into the Lpn program next month I'm good! But it was a tad frustrating dealing with my child's daycare...grr. but so far so good the math class looks super doable pheww and anatomy is what I expect. The teachers are all so friendly abs they're really understanding. I can't wait to finish these and begin the program! Plus the payment due dates worked out fine becausevthey changed the dates I'm not required to pay wen I was and they really don't seem to be on my back about it which I like already. The students in my class were there for the cna but I already am one, but they told me thats why the classes were delayed becaust they were finishing up their cna stuff and they had the same instructor, but they really like the school and have told me that they've had great experiences so far. So all in all I am totally looking forward to it, right now I'm glad I listened to the nurse I know and chose this school

Good for you hon..I'm glad it's working out for you!

Ohh, thought I should let u kno and anyone looking, j Renee just got financial aid like literally this week, so awesoome :) and they're moving to a reallly nice new building in Elgin much closer to the chicagoland area, thank goddd
