I applied to the med/surg and eating disorder program at CHOC at Mission and got a screening call yesterday afternoon!

did they schedule an interview with you on the phone call? or still waiting to hear back?

You receive email first for invitation to interview and to schedule a phone call. then The phone call is is to go over information for the interview date.

How is everyone feeling?? I had my phone call this morning and she gave me the rundown for the day. Seems kinda intense but also sounds fun!!

Has anyone heard back?!

Not yet ?? having to wait makes me anxious!! LOL

Not yet!! Fingers crossed ??

I hope you all get offers! I will be applying again for the next cycle and I was wondering if anyone has any advice? I did my senior preceptorship in the NICU  and I've had jobs throughout nursing school. I'm really bummed that I didn't get chosen for an interview and I'm not sure what I can do different next time? I'm not sure if it's because I'm not local?

I'm not local either and got an interview! I know their NICU program was super competitive. The unit I applied to had like 7 of us there while NICU had what looked like more than double. Your stats look good so maybe your cover letter or how you answered the supplemental questions didn't align with what they were looking for? I tailor my cover letter to each hospital's values annd mission and try to show how my experiences match those values. Did you have a letter of rec? I only submitted one and it was from my clinical instructor

Hmm I did that as well. I submitted 2 letters of recommendation. I have my NRP, PALS, ACLS, BLS. The only thing I can think of is I don't have my RN license and I plan to test in January and the program starts in February so maybe they thought I wouldn't meet the deadline? ?

@frenchfries123

I am not really sure how they select their candidates. If you really want to get into choc I suggest maybe working as a CNA for now. Internals got to stay and get second interview with their second Choices. I am not sure cause I did see like 4 candidates there who left after their interview to go to their nursing graduation.

Or anything MA , CNA, front desk. Etc. anything that way you're considered internal. But even if internal it's not guaranteed. I know someone who interviewed in May 2023 and didn't get in and she was internal.

Oh dang that's frustrating! Especially since you already have all those certifications. Not having your licenses could have affected things but I'm not too sure. Like 3 people in my unit are graduating this semester and don't have their license yet. But I wonder since NICU was super competitive if that was taken into account. My advice is def reapply if this is something you want and you're able to wait. A girl that got a NICU interview works at choc as a MA and maybe that gave her a leg up. When I was contacted about interviews she said about 310 applied and 80 have interviews:/
