CHKD salary

Published

Hi. I was wondering what full time RN's make at CHKD?? Anyone know??

Much thanks! Epona :)

Specializes in Psychiatric Nurse.

my girlfriend was working at chkd until december 2008 and she is now working in chicago so this information may be a little off...

she said the base pay was $19 and change; however with recent salary upgrades (that usually occurs between june and october at most hospitals) it may be higher now. also, they had a shift differential of $8.00, if you wanted to work nights. so, $27-28 per hour/night shift. this is not a bad salary for the hampton roads area. sentara hospitals are slightly higher (now up to $21 and change base pay, with $8 shift differential; however norfolk general has the only $9 shift differental for nights plus a weekend differential on top of that!) so chkd may be right inline (equal to) with sentara finally.

as you look at salary, take into consideration the nurse-to-patient ratio. while one hospital may pay better than another, i would take the lesser salary if i could work at a facility that had a safe "nurse-to-patient" ratio on the floor where i planned to work.

p.s. my girlfriend loved working at chkd. she learned a lot there since it was her first job after graduating. in the future, if you returns to the hampton roads area, she plans to return to chkd to work

thanks for the information! i just spoke to my girlfriend who stated as a new grad (dec. 2007) and worked at chkd from march-december 2008. we expected the base pay to increase (it was only $19+change when she started). i meant to type $7 as the shift dif (sentara night shift is $8 at most facilities; but $9 at norfolk general) so i should have caught my typo while i was proofreading. but the $27-28 range i quoted for nights/weekend differential was close/about right.

i appreciate your information. i have many friends who recently graduated and they are all interested in the current salaries at local hospitals.

enjoy your new job!!

Thanks! I took a PRN job with them and I am making less. I was curious if they ever gave me full time, what the salary would be.

Thanks again for sharing!! :D

At CHKD it also depends on what area of the health system you work in...inpatient vs. outpatient areas...outpatient areas make less

as far as differentials go...do you get nights and weekends(7+2 =+9?) if you work a Saturday night? i'm completely new over here, so don't flame me please! :)

That's usually the way that sort of thing works. But you will have to ask them to be sure. It's a reasonable question: so, don't be embarrassed about asking the recruiter or your new boss.
