U.S.A. New Jersey

Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone can share any information they had on this hospital..

When I graduate - I am looking forward to working (Nights, Weekends, Full Time) I would like the Pediatric Unit..

But whatever opening will do at the time.. I was wondering what the salary was like, what the staff was like, benefits, school reimbursement, etc. Other than the information given on the website.. Any and all information would be great.!

hi there. I did my summer externship at chilton this past summer. It is a nice hospital. It is a smaller, community hospital. I believe the starting pay for new grads is about 27 dollars per hours. If you are experienced, im sure you will make more. It seems they are always hiring for the IMCU(intermediate care unit). The hospitals treats their employees really well. All the nurses i worked with really cared about their patients. You tend to get a very homogenous population of patients. Mostly white middle aged to older population. I believe the website is chiltonmemorial.org. Hope this helps!!

oh thank you for the reply - i almost forgot i even posted this message... :)

i have applied via fax with the position of unit secretary to get my foot into the door.. unfortunately to no avail i had no bites.. ;) But i remain hopeful!!! i am lucky enough that i am not pressed for a job at this moment.. phew!! thanks for the info though... the hospital sounds really nice.. but maybe i'll also search for a more diversified hospital as well.. maybe something in the city if the hiring freeze is over by the time i graduate.. have you gotten your RN License? which Hospital do you prefer?? :)

hi crissy.......try applying on the website. That seems to be where people get the most replies. I will be graduating in may. I have starting applying to the bigger hospitals in the area(morristown, hackensack, barnabas), and i will be applying in NYC starting next month. I believe the name the last name of the recriuter is named collins. i forget her first name tho. Good luck!!

aww thanks so much your the best.. and best of luck i hope you get your top choice hospital!!! i have yet to finish up one more semester of pre-req's and then i can apply for my Nursing Eve. Program.. I work full time and go to school part-time.. and the memorization is unbelievable... But it's a fulfilling challenge in the end.!!

i too work full-time and i go to the CCM weekend nursing program!! its alot of work.........but im sure you will do great!! Just stay on top of the work, and dont be afraid to pick the brains of your professors!! They love to teach!! Hopefully, by the time you graduate there will be more hiring options. Also, if you can, do an externship over the summer!! This is an invaluable experience that will give you an advantage when you start applying for jobs. Hospitals look very highly upon an externship. NY Presbyterian in nyc wont consider you unless you do an externship. P.S........Chilton has a great externship program!!

Thanks again for the advice.. :)

Chilton Memorial is horrible. They have a saying that they do things their way and it's called "Chiltonism". Well they are really behind the times. I'm an experienced nurse and I only lasted 3.5 months. They also don't compensate for a BSN. Look elsewhere....

WOW! I am so surprised to hear you say this! I was really hoping to get a job at CMH..My hubby does some on call there and says its a nice place, and everyone I have come across who has history there says the same.

Can you give some examples as to why it's not a great place? I know you said they are behind the times..meaning what?

I am a new grad and I am hoping to start in a smaller community hospital to get my feet wet and get my skills prefected. Unfortunately as many other posters are saying...jobs just aren't there for new grads! which is really terrible! I worked so hard for this degree and now I am sitting on it!
