Children's Nursing Career.

Published

Hi Guys,

I am currently a second year student nurse in the UK , studying children's nursing. I am really confused as to what options are available for when I graduate and I am qualified to work.

I want to be more than just a band 5 nurse in the hospital, I would do that for a few years to gain experience but I would like to know what more is on offer for children's nurses. I like the idea of practice nurse, however it seems to be very limited in the childrens field.

Any ideas anyone has please let me know. I want to be able to get more out of being a nurse and helping people!

:)

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I worked as a practice nurse and yes there are some elements of child nursing mainly vacs most is adult and will probably require you to be adult trained. Also experience will be desired

Specializes in ER.

Peds nurses can also work in A&E and in the community.

And of course there are nursing specialties within peds too, I've worked in pediatric oncology and liver transplant, both of which were challenging and rewarding.

Specializes in ER.

Forgot, there is also PICU and NICU too : )
