hello,

ok, so here it goes i just found out that that i am pregnant with my first baby. i had plans to go to ma school this fall but because of my due date being in april i will not be able to finish in time so i have to put my plans on hold until next fall. here is the thing now once the baby is born i will be able to claim the baby on my financial aid application so now i should be able to get the loan that i need to go to lpn program instead. my husband and i are not in agreement of child care. my husband only wants me to the ma program where he can be at home with the baby because it is only on sundays from 9am-4pm and 9 months. however, i want to do the lpn program which is friday, saturday, sunday 9am-4pm. i figure my cousin could watch the baby on friday and saturday. my husband does not feel comfortable with my cousin watching our baby. i trust her she has a baby right now on her own and does a great job not only that she takes care of the babies at the church nursery. i would not have to pay her much either. the thing is that my husband wants to go back to school in 2012 for his master in nursing (crna). i know that i will have to work full-time and pay for most of the bills while he is attending school. i think that being a lpn will allow me with better job outlook and pay if i go this route. i am not sure what to do.

You both just have to figure this out. There is a time for everything. I've been on hold for a while while my husband worked on his PhD. Now it's my turn. ;)

In our case that allowed him to get a great job with benefits and the kind of salary that would support me in school.

Just a side note, why not get your RN right off the bat?

congratulations on being pregnant!!

as an at home mom to 3 and a former day care program director, you might surprise yourself and you might be less willing to leave your baby to go to school. in this case, you might feel a lot better about leaving the baby with your husband.

i know i felt totally uncomfortable leaving my kids with anyone besides grandma or my husband when i was in school.

the other issue to consider is whether i am reading correctly and you are trying to decide between a medical assistant degree and a licensed practical nurse degree. if so, i think another factor to consider is what your eventual goals are - if you want to be an rn, then i think lpn is a better stepping stone. you may also want to consider which position, ma or lpn, will give you the schedule you prefer once you're finished.
