I am strongly interested in opening a day care center for children who have medical needs ( diabetic, g-tube, trach care.). I receive request from parents asking if i am able to care for their children with these needs while they are working and i would like to open a center for parents to bring there children to be cared for since they cannot bring them to an ordinary child care center. I live in the bay area of california.

You are looking to open a Pediatric Medical Day Health Center/ Medical Day Care.
Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) is another term used by Medicaid -- care is prescribed by a physician allowing minors from birth through age 21 with medically complex conditions to receive daily medical care in a non-residential setting.
I have worked with a PA provider-Lauren's House providing therapy staff (PT/OT/ST) for their pediatric day care program in the past.
They are now part of a multi-state group called PEDIATRIC HEALTH CHOICE, the largest provider of this type service in US. Visit their site to see array of services.
In PA, permanently disabled children usually eligible for services under one of our Wavier Programs.
Medicaid Waivers - Family Resource Guide best describes available pediatric services.
Medicaid is usual payer of pediatric care for those less than age 21--so you would need to become a MedCal Provider --very little payment by other insurance companies or private pay.
Look a CA Children's Services website to see if they have similar services.

Your first gonna have to see what type of facilities your state allows and make sure there is rembursement for it. After that tere a plenty of models on the east coast you would want to tour and the. Secure venture capital to go through startup. It's a big project.
Yes it will be a long haul and am the only one i am aware of in my area that wants to pursue this. So im all scrambled...

We have 2 medical day cares in my city. Both are owned by hospitals. Both have waiting lists for children. Medicaid pays for the children's attendance.

You may want to check out the Children's Recovery Center of Northern California. It's long term subacute care rather than a daycare, but it's in your area and you might find others who are interested in the idea. I volunteered there for a short time back in high school and really enjoyed it.
