Heard this morning on the news, there are now 250 cases.
There is an outbreak of Chicken Pox in south Arkansas. It's a common childhood illness, but many of these children were vaccinated against Chicken Pox. The Department of Health and Human Services says 119 children in Ashley County now have Chicken Pox. The Centers for Disease Control are investigating. This is a problem around the country as questions arise about the vaccine's effectiveness.

Hmmm . . . .this is a little worrisome. I opted NOT to get my 5 year old vaccinated against chicken pox as my older kids weren't and all had the chicken pox at the same time (whoo hoo that was fun).
I've been looking for a chicken pox party (jk) . . .. . but this is a bit scary. Does the vaccine NOT protect kids against the pox?

I think this is the CDC concern, steph. Possible ineffective vaccine.

The more they let illegal immigrants into the country, and the more these anti-immunization children of "naturalists" are allowed into the school system, the more this is going to happen.
Immunizations are a defense, not a guarantee. I wonder if babies are going to have to start dying of this stuff again in high numbers before people of my generation get a reality dose of WHY children are immunized.

I've always heard that the vaccine is not a sure thing of not getting Ck.Pox. Had a friend who said her son received the vaccine and still had Ck.Pox.
Also heard it only last like 5 years?
I've never had it, sometimes wish I had. Freaked out my girls would bring it home and give it to me. So I had all of us vac'd.
I really don't want to be 28 years old with the chicken Pox!!!!
I went to a "pox party" when I was a kid. Never got it, if I did it was very, very mild.

From what I understand, the vaccine will not necessarily prevent you from getting chicken pox, however, it does prevent you from getting the "full dose" of the disease.
It used to scar horribly...not unlike smallpox...it wasn't a death sentence like smallpox was...but it was up there.
We had a huge outbreak in the school system amoung young children of Chicken Pox and when they went through school records...something like over 90% of the children either weren't vaccinated themselves, or had a sibling that wasn't that also had the chicken pox.
I don't know why so many people are "anti-immunization". Immunizations are not for an individual person...they are to protect society.
While I respect people making those choices for themselves as adults, I feel that parents who refuse to immunize their children are not giving their child the best shot at a healthy life.
I strongly feel, as illegal immigration increases, both with adults and children...I fully support laws where you can't seek employment, education, etc..unless you can show you are immunized.
If someone doesn't want to immunize their child, then they should homeschool them too.
