Chemistry Question

Published

I have never taken Chemistry before so I checked out a "E-Z Chemistry" book from the library and now I am really nervous. I have never had any difficulty learning new things but when I tried to read this book I was so overwhelmed. My question is this: In Chemistry are you expected to memorize ALL of these formulas or are you just expected to be able to use them? I am thinking that the book I got was just poorly written and I am hoping it is more advanced than a Chemistry 101 class will be. What should I expect and is there anything I should study now to be better prepared?

It truly all depends on your instructor as to what they want you to "memorize". If i were you I wouldn't go trying to memorize the book just because your instructor will select what you need to know and what you guys will just skim over! You can start off by learning the structure of an atom & understanding about the different shells because you will be using alot of that knowledge when it comes to bonding and such!

hope this helps! just make sure you understand the first concepts your teacher will talk about because those are the basis for the entire chem class!

We had to learn the first 20(?) on the periodic table. That periodic table will come in big, so familiarize yourself with the structure. :)

All the best!

Like the other posters said, don't start memorizing anything until you start class and you know what your instructor is focusing on. But you should get straight what is a mole and what is avogadro's number, and the difference between mass and weight, since you'll be using these measurements a lot.

Don't worry about it too much. The hardest thing for people is nomenclature. The chem class is an intro class so as long as you know your basic algebra, you should be more prepared for it.

there are some key formulas id recommend memoirzing

any one that has to do with water how many calories it takes for i at frozen or cooling i believe its 80cal/g or o then 540cal/g id recommend memorizing the pv/t formula there will be like the guy isaacs law but allthat can be broken down to pv/t or something like that.. id remember or familarize how to calculate the temp from farenheit to calculus and vice versa.. remember that the temp added to kelvin is the final given temp plus 273 there is no 0 its just like 335K the other ones arent too bad also familarize yourself with the metric system like 1000 ml = 1 L etc
