Chattanooga LPN Program

Published

Can anyone give me any info regarding the LPN program in Chattanooga at the Tennessee Technology Center on the campus of Chattanooga State Community College? This is the school I am considering, but all the posts about people being unhappy with their school have me pretty scared!! There is also a school in Athens, Tn as well I am looking at. Please tell me if you have any info regarding how well they prepare you for real-life work.

Thanks so much for all the info! definitely makes me feel a lil better. still quite nervous though. Not working right now, but I have 2 children and husband, or should i say 3 kids :) Im taking Nutrition right now, but dont have the greatest confidence that i will pass the class, considering that the final exam is your final course grade if you fail.

In my opinion taking that A&P while in LPN school will stomp you..but more power and respect to you if you can do it. You really dont need the added stress of another class while in the program, they will keep you plenty busy.

i was worried about passing nutrition but passed with a B. I am sooo happy about that!:D hopefully it will give me a little extra time to study for other things. Except i havent taken a & p. im probably going to be working in the evenings and wkends til bout 8 pm so im really worried about that and not having much time to study. and hate that i wont be able to spend much time with my family:cry:

I got a B in Nutrition too. I'm taking Microbiology at night this summer 2 days a week. I'm hoping I do really well in there, too. I am excited about starting the program and anxious to find everything out on June 3. Of course, I wish it were the RN program but with me only have 2 biology courses I can see why I wasn't accepted. I'm worried about balancing time with my family as well, my oldest starts Kindergarten and I'll be putting my 2 yr old in daycare for the 1st time..

so what did you think about orientation? im trying to figure out how to get all the things done before school starts and come up with the money for them! sounds like its gonna be pretty strict and structured program. but im just ready to get it started and over with!

I was overwhelmed with all the information. I've got to find time to do a 5 hour module lol and get all these things taken care of in the next 2 months....WHEW!! I was also not aware that we would be putting money up front before financial aid.

I am excited about being in the new building:yeah:, I didn't know that's where we would be.

Do you know if we have to bring all our books and kit, stethoscope, etc the first day? I guess I'm going to have to buy a rolling bag like she suggested! That's alot of text!!

Where were you in the room?

There are still some things that were gray areas to me, what about you?..

i know, it was so overwhelming. im not really sure how im going to pay for everything but i know last year, i did a stafford loan and it was late so they let me go ahead and buy my books and then took it out of my account when my loan was credited by the school. hopefully they will do that again. i called financial aid, so i will let you know when they get back to me. yeah, i think im gonna buy a rolling bag also. they should have quite a few to choose from closer to school starting. i know it says that we need to bring our books first day, so i guess so. i dont know if i will bring stethoscope and kit though. surely we wont need that until a little later on. im hoping that our tuition will come out of financial aid and not have to pay up front bc there is too much else to spend on. the way she talked it would though. i was on the far left side of the room farthest away from the door. had a red shirt with black shirt over it. blonde hair. where were you?

Good point about not needing the stethoscope and kit 1st day! I had some people in my micro class today say not to buy all the books because you won't need them all, so I'm really confused about what to do. It's expensive and I don't want to spend more than I need to but I want to be prepared.

I can't place who you were, lol. I was closer to the door, brown hair, green shirt.

Hi guys, since I am considering applying for the Jan. 2010 program, can you tell me how much money exactly that you are having to pay for the program? I am not sure about affording it, but if there is money required up front, I do know I will have to start saving now. I was hoping if I got accepted that pell grant would cover most of the cost but I am guess by your posts that is not the case?........

the paper that they gave us totaled about 5,000 in expenses over the year. I was suprised that we had to pay for so much up front. Before school starts, we have to have a CPR class-about 30 dollars, a physical-around 100, our books -around 900, a drug test-probably around 30-45, and a couple other things. She said we had to have our books first day of class, also our hunter green uniforms, and white shoes. so quite a bit of expense before grants or loans come in a couple of weeks after school starts! Hope this helps. Sorry numbers arent exact but thats a good estimate.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to leave some feedback on the LPN program at Chatt. State. I graduated from it in 2004 and I absolutely loved my instructors! They have changed since then, and I believe only 3 of the original ones are still there. Half of our class got knocked out by Nutrition...But that instructor retired (she was wonderful, just hard), so it's prob. better now...You have to be prepared to have no life until it's over, and get used to making flash cards!!! The uniforms still stink, but it will be worth it in the end. A word to the wise though....ALL your math and science pre-reqs will expire in 5 years....So if you have taken A&P, Micro, etc. and plan on trying to get into the RN program, make sure you do it within those 5 years. If I had to do it over again, I would've just gone for the BSN to begin with...I'm going back in the fall to RETAKE all my maths and science so I can do the BSN...EVENTUALLY. Good luck to all of you! You will do great if that's what you really want and are willing to work hard!

Oh, and the money will add up for things they don't tell you up front....your pins, decorations for diff things, etc.
