Can anyone give me any info regarding the LPN program in Chattanooga at the Tennessee Technology Center on the campus of Chattanooga State Community College? This is the school I am considering, but all the posts about people being unhappy with their school have me pretty scared!! There is also a school in Athens, Tn as well I am looking at. Please tell me if you have any info regarding how well they prepare you for real-life work.

I am currently in my 2nd semester at chatt state's LPN program. I like it just fine. The teachers have their days but overall they are really good and knowledgeable. There is going to be people everywhere who don't like something about their school. Can't please everyone. It is fast-paced like any other LPN program and they think highly of their students and expect the best from everyone. They really want to see you do well and will not sugar-coat things for you because they know making it easy will not help you. Overall they are good and before I applied I heard nothing but good things. You could visit them and see what you think. I think it's a good program.
Thank you so much for your reply!! I am very nervous because I have four children, a husband, and I have been out of school for a while. I am 30. Do you have any others in your class that are older and have children? Do you think it would be beneficial for me to go ahead and take A&P and Nutrition in the fall? I am planning to try and apply for the January program, providing I can afford daycare for my two year old, if not, I will apply for fall of 2010, when my little one can go to pre-k program.
It definately is beneficial to get those out of the way especially if you want to continue your education. There are alot of people who are alot older. About 85% of the class has kids, full time jobs, husbands and everything else under the sun. Our teachers have been really good about giving us study days for those who have to work at night and who have other obligations. I dont really know how long they will keep that up because some ppl dont appreciate small things like that. But trust me they do understand you have an outside life.
Thank you so much!!! I am so glad I found someone from Chattanooga on here, it just eases my mind so much to know a little of what to expect.
You are welcome. Glad I can be of some help. Let me know when and if you decide to take those classes I can tell you the best teachers to take.. Also have you looked under the region tab in the tennesee forum. There are some ppl from chattanooga who chat around in there also.
I have decided to take A&P. I am also considering taking nutrition but I would have to take it online, I can't go to campus for more than one class in the fall. I am going to go ahead and apply to get into the LPN program in January. Can you tell me what time classes start and end? One the website it says 7:45 to 2:30, but when I called, the lady on the phone told me 7:30 to 3:30?!

Congrats on your goal. You may want to contact TN Workforce in your area. I was told at TTC @ Dickson that they can assist with childcare fees, uniforms, and possibly gas depending upon the amount of money available and application deadline dates.
You know what? It's supposed to be from 7:45 to 3:30 but you never stay that long. Since I have been in the program the longest I have stayed is 3 pm and that was only once. That's a really long day and everyone is tired we usually finish up around 2 on lecture days. A lot of times we go for lunch at 12 and don't have to come back. It depends on what's going on that day but I highly doubt you will ever be there until 3:30 unless you choose to be. They will inform you to not schedule anything before 3:30 just in case tho.

hey YngNursNtrng, I have just been accepted to LPN for Fall of this year at chatt state and wondering just what i should expect the first semester. Lots of homework, tests, quizzes? The instructors, how are they? and in what semester do you start doing clinicals. I have heard that its fast paced and hard work. I really appreciate any advice, or info you can give. thanks soo much!
Congrats on the acceptance!!:yeah:YES ma'am it is fast paced..I am pretty sure they told you this but if you have taken nutrition and/or A&P 1&2 and received a B or better you are exempt and let me tell you, you will have alot of time to study while the rest of the class goes thru anatomy and nutrition and it wont seem too bad but if you have yet to take these classes put on your seatbelt and hold on!!!! Going thru my grade sheet we had taken over 50 tests and quizzes over the semester!! You have tests EVERY week and rarely do you have homework(at least we didnt). Sometimes up to 3 or 4. Just prepare yourself for no social life, especially if you work. The teachers are great! Of course like any others they have their days. You do start clinicals in the first semester except you only go in the last week of school whereas in 2nd and 3rd semester you go every Thursday and Friday. All I can say is stay positive, stay ahead and stay away from the drama and you should be fine...Congrats again:D

Hi Ladies,
I was just accepted into the Fall 2009 LPN program at Chatt. State so I really appreciate this thread. I am taking Micro in the summer and planned to take A&P II in the fall. Do you think this would be too much along with the LPN program, taking A&P II in the fall? These are the only 2 classes I left for prereq's into the RN program. I have 2 small children as well and planned to take A&P at night on campus but I didn't know how intense the LPN program was, I won't be working...THANKS!
