Charge Nurse Questions

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am current working on my Master's capstone project in which I am developing a charge nurse training program. I was wondering if you'd be willing to answer some questions that would help me out. I'm not sure what the rules are with posting links survey monkey so I will just put them here.

1. Are you currently a charge nurse?

2. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being excellent) How would rate your charge nurses' :

Leadership skills?

Nursing skills?

Conflict management skills?

Critical thinking skills?

3. Do you feel like your charge nurses have enough nursing experience?

4. Do you feel like your charge nurses are fair or show favoritism?

5. On a scale of 1 to 5, How supported do you feel by your charge nurses?

6. How much nursing experience do you have?

Thank you for your time!

Curious as to what sort of insights you think you'll get from these questions? They're too broad and vague, and asking only for yes/no or 1-5 responses, so all you'll glean is the awareness that some charge nurses are good and some not so much. Would it not be more useful to ask for some context or specific examples of what people find good/bad?

Gathering data this way is really not solid, how will you even know who your audience is if you are gathering responses from an anonymous bunch of people who might or might not even be nurses? Did you run this survey instrument and methodology by your preceptor?

I agree with PPs. They are pretty vague questions. What if I had multiple charge nurses, some excellent, some not? And this seems rather broad for a masters' project. This also looks to have some bias. Let me guess: you think charge nurses do not have enough nursing experience, show favoritism and do not support staff.

For what is worth, I was a charge nurse, I saw good and bad. Plus, qualities you don't mention is how much support does the charge nurse get from the manager/supervisor? How much training did they have and continue to have? In other words, it's not all about experience.

Well thanks for all your help. Obviously if I wanted detailed responses or a critique I would have asked for that. I have read about the toxic community on these forums and I see it's not far from the truth.

I actually just wanted to help. Oh well, good luck with your capstone!

I'm sorry I and the other posters wasted our time trying to help you improve a survey that will net you exactly zero useful responses for a project that I assume is rather important to you.

Honestly, I do wonder how people who think this forum is "toxic" manage to survive in the actual world on a day-to-day basis.
