U.S.A. Washington

Published

I just passed my NCLEX and my LPN license is for South Carolina. How do I go about changing it to a Washington State one where I am planning to work.

Everything you need to do/know is on the website

Thanks CCL RN. I shall check it out.

It's easy-just remember that your fingerprints MUST be done at the police station. They also take the longest to process. But they award a temp permit quickly, within 3 weeks of your application.

Thanks again CCL. I went to the website and there were several options but i assumed the right paperwork is the endorsement form. So after i download the endorsement form, do i send it to my current nursing board (where my license is from) or do i send it to Washington state (where i am seeking the license from)? What does my current state do verify and then send it to Washington to issue me with a WA license? I am sorry for asking too many questions but i could not find info on these questions on the site.

I don't think you have to send that to your current board if you verify your license in NURSYS. That's like a 35$ fee or so. Even though I did this only a few months ago I can't remember exactly what I did.

However, they are easily reachable by phone, and super helpful. You should call them.

Thanks again CCL RN for the info. So what you are saying is that all I need to do is contact Washington State (the state I am moving to) and not my board here in S.C.? If that is the case then I shall contact the Department of Health (WA) by phone for more details.

Yup. I never contacted my old state board for anything. Just paid the fee online for nursys...

The people on the WA DOH telephone are really helpful. As soon as you complete the application, you'll get a temporary permit to practice, good for 6 months. In that time, you'll get your fingerprints done ( on their fingerprint card that they will mail you) at a police station. Be prepared because the cops mail it out , so be ready with a check on the day of fingerprinting. All that info is in the fingerprint packet...

Thanks again. I appreciate all the info CCL RN.
