Chandler-Gilbert On Probation

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey everyone, I recently saw on AZBON that Chandler-Gilbert's program is on probation. Wow. I'm nervous because this is the location I'll be applying to after next semester. I have really liked the school so far and was surprised to hear bad things about the program, and now this?

Here is the link: https://www.azbn.gov/media/2511/chandler-gilbert-consent-agree-fully-execsent-5102017.pdf

Should I be casting my stones elsewhere or is this not too much of a problem?

This does not surprise me at all. That college has the worst reputation of the entire MCCD. I hope this is a wake up call and that they can turn it around. But I personally would not attend a school that risks losing its accreditation. If they lose it mid program, you are SOL. And schools with a poor reputation are known by hiring managers

I read the entire document.....that is REALLY worrying!

Only if you're considering CGCC.

OP, I would consider attending one of the other college's until CG can get their program back in good shape. I went to GW and had no issues at all with any of this.

I am pretty surprised considering MCCD has some of the best NCLEX pass rates in the state. I wonder why this school is the only one with a bad program...

I wouldn't say the program itself is bad, it just seems like their administration needs work.

No, I've been accepted at a different college, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is really worrying!

It shouldn't worry you too much, because as I previously stated, this is a CG nursing program administration problem, not a MCCD problem. I just graduated from the program at GW and all of the grievances the board has listed for CG were not a problem at GW. While the CC's are all connected and follow similar curriculum, they are also all different. For example, PV and Scottsdale used different books for the nursing program than GW. While it's okay to want to keep an eye out for problems in your own program, I would not be worried about CG's unless you're going there - which you said you weren't. It sounds like CG just needs a fresh set of administrators for the nursing program there.

I agree - and I think we're talking at cross-purposes....I'm not worried in regards to the college I will attend (I don't think this is a MCC issue, I agree with you it is restricted to this particular college) I'm just saying it's a worrying situation in general, and I guess my comment was spurred by my general frustration at (IMO) sinking academic standards ....

I think this is really true especially for nursing programs. Chandler-Gilbert is on probation, Grand Canyon only has like a 70-something NCLEX pass rate, and Coconino is under fire too.

I've heard Mesa CC has a great program but I really have enjoyed Chandler-Gilbert so far - it's small and all of my teachers have been great (all except my ENG 101 professor who can't really speak English...) and the Williams campus is awesome - almost like a separate building for nursing students. It seems like all the schools have some kind of drama around them lately. It's scary.

As of February 22, 2018, CGCC Nursing Program is certified through the Nursing Board for the next 8 years. I hope that lays to rest concerns anyone in the program or applying to the program may have. It's tough enough without that worry. :)

If you ever have concerns, you can contact the Nursing Board directly to find the info you're looking for. :)

I am currently attending CGCC block 2 and the problems mentioned in the above document are no longer a problem with the program. Most of the problems were regarding the administration, and I believe the instructor that was mentioned in the document has been gone for the last two years. We had a meeting with one of the members of the nursing board in Febuary and they reassured all of the students if for some reason the school failed the probation period that the program is still certified by the board of nursing. I have loved all of my clinical instructors, and lab instructors. Lecture is lecture, tons of information, and can be boring at sometimes, but the instructors have been improving on it by having the students actively participating in the lecture. Overall I am satisfied with the program, nursing school is stressful because of the sheer amount of information you have to try and retain.

If you have any questions about what I have gone through with the program feel free to message me. I will recommend buying the NCLEX and Nursing Fundamentals book from amazon, because it has been one of the best sources of information outside of the textbooks and helps with the exams at least at CGCC.
