chances of getting hired...

Good luck with that. I have been trying for a year now. It seems to be that you have to finish the first semester of nursing or be a cna before you can get hired.

Being a CNA is excellent footing for learning the patient care you'll need for nursing. You'll breeze through clinicals being a CNA. It's a very flexible position, too. Additionally, when the nurse extern positions open up, guess who will have first choice??

A different venue but the same question. I was hired at a long term facility as a CNA with the thought that I would move up once I got my RN. I was upfront about the fact that I was in nursing school. That is why I asked for and was hired for night shift. At the time, I went to the local hospitals, but they would not hire me as a CNA. Just wondering if anyone knows what the chances are of getting hired in a hospital with them knowing that you are working towards an RN degree? I am going to need flexible employment while I am in the program!:icon_roll

It was fun talking to you, too. I would love to get a few HFCC girls together with you WCCCCCCCCD girls and hash everything out about our programs. We should find a mutually convenient time (HA!) and get together at a Starbucks or something!

(Duh - Christmas break would have been a great time to do this - will have to wait for a spring break, perhaps)

Anyway, everyone have a great semester! Keep your eye on the prize, and don't let anyTHING or anyONE get in the way of your goal!!

As a Nurse tech or Student Nurse (depending where you go), they generally want you to have Med Surg 1 done. After that apply everyday, faithfully and to all positions that you qualify for and at all hospitals within your travel range, there may not be a SN or NT position posted, but when they interview you and find out your a Nursing student they will snatch you right up. I speak from personal experience. DMC is really hiring for SNA's at Childrens, St. John Providence will be losing a lot of it's staff to the new Novi facility.

It's always a good idea to apply right before graduations too. Those SN's and NT's who become Graduate nurses leave a huge void.
