Chancellor's LPN to RN study guides

ok... what I've found out is that,

1) chancellors is not a school... its just a book maker

2) excelsior is a online only school where you test out of classes...

Thanks for the reply. I understand that Regents/Excelsior is the SCHOOL that grants the degree, and the others are just publishing companies that print material to help you study to pass the nursing tests. I was wondering if anyone had tried Chancellors study guides, as Chancellors claim they are an all in one notebook/study guide and audio tapes. No other text books are required and so you don't have to buy a bunch of school books. If you go straight through Excelsior, you need to buy a lot of textbooks to learn the information needed to test out. Also was wondering if anyone knows of someone selling the Chancellors blue study guides and audio tapes for any of the ASN/ADN nursing courses. Thanks again. Also, any opinions??

I've heard mixed reviews on Chancellors. Some of the people I talk to swear by them and others say that they contain a lot of useless info. There a several publishing companies out there, each with their own study program. I have personally gone with Moore because they have interest free financing on study modules, interest free financing for the CPNE and provide a free CPNE practice exam complete with strengths/weaknesses evaluation if you put down 10%. Just shop around for the best deal. If you decide that used study modules are the best choice for you then try browsing the classifieds at http://www.chipkalee.com

I am doing the Excelsior thing through Chancellors, let me offer you my thoughts. It is expensive but of the big three (Moore, Rue and Chancellors) it's the cheapest. They offer the CPNE prep as part of the contract now however, when I signed up it was optional. I am taking the prep course in 2 weeks and will be happy to report back to the group how it went. One final observation, I think the Chancellors study guide offers way more info than you need to pass the test. I frequently find myself doing marginally well on the practice test in the study guide but doing quite well on the actual exam. My advice is to make sure you get the study guide guide from Excelsior, that way you can gauge what you need based on what is provided. As a whole, I would recommend Chancellors. Good luck whatever you decide.

RyaninMTV, Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your helpful advice. I am still not sure which route to take. I see now that for many tests, you must first be enrolled at Excelsior. Was it that way when you tested? Did you enroll at the beginning of your studies with Chancellors? That throws a wrench in my thoughts, as I don't want to register at Excelsior more than one year, and every year is an extra large fee! I guess there is no easy, low cost way to accomplish this.

Xmasbabe- I took several courses before actually enrolling in Excelsior. I would take everything you can before you enroll because the clock (as it were) starts running once you enroll. Start with something easy and learn the testing style, then enroll and take the nursing courses. You are correct, there is no cheap way to do it but I'm almost done and I can definately tell you it's worth it. Good Luck.

Ryaninmtv, thanks again for your response. Your advice about learning the testing style sounds very wise. It has been many years since I have been tested! What would you recommend as something "easy" to start with? I have been studying the Chancellors Occu. Strat. and have just learned that you must be enrolled at Excelsior before being able to test out on that one as of 10-01-01. So I would like to move on to something else, preferably not too difficult to start out with. Thanks for your encouragement and congratulations on almost being done!

Xmasbabe- Go with Lifespan Developmental Psychology (Growth and Development_). It's not a hard course, 3 credit hours and an excellent way to check out the style of the tests (I think it's about 100 questions_). From there, I took Anatomy and Physiology and then Microbiology. Those courses are not as easy but are passable if you study. Good luck.
