Chamberlain University Nursing Informatics

Updated | Posted

Hi!

I am half way through my MSN in Nursing Informatics. I don't see any support groups so I have created one. If you are currently going through the Chamberlain University Nursing Informatics or recently graduated, Please feel free to join. Search facebook groups for "Chamberlain MSN Informatics."

I see 284 people have viewed this post. Feel free to reply :)

Chamberlain University Nursing Informatics program is not very good. I have done research for myself and I have read that it is not looked upon favorably and they have no connections to the workforce. Plus, they come off as a sleezy for profit business. They don't post their tuition and the advisor seem like a salesmen not actually people that are trying to provide guidance within one's academic and professional journey.

I am looking into CUNY's Nursing Informatics program, which is online as well. But, the CUNY the tuition is low and CUNY has many connections to various medical institutions.

How's the program so far? I am considering going through them. Currently working full time in the operating room, so just wondering how the work load is gonna be.

STAY AWAY FROM CHAMBERLIN.

Have you read the review on here and other sites? They are a diploma mill and they hold very poor value in the workforce. Go to a public college or something more reputable.

You have the links to those reviews? Most of the reviews I've read have been positive.

Research anywhere on here or do a Google search and there are others who have spoken negatively about them.

Why would you want to go to a school that doesn't post their fees and tuition? That comes off as a scam. They have no real connections, they offer no scholarships and force people to take out loans to their crappy program.

The Smart RNs know that State/Public Universities are the best investment long term. No to Little DEBT AND ARE HIGHLY FAVORABLE IN TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT. I asked HR at the Hospital where am I if they considered for-profit school like Chamberlin valuable. I got a quick no. Same answer from the nurses here too.

Best of luck to you to whatever you decide.

To be fair ... https://www.chamberlain.edu/admissions/tuition-expenses

But I agree, I would look at state schools first, or private non-profits. I did my MSN in Nursing Informatics at a private, non-profit school.

👍👍

What state or town do you live in?

I am currently in an accelerated BSN degree program at CUNY. (15 months) I have a degree already in Computer Science.

After my BSN program, I am looking into an online masters program at CUNY SPS in Nursing Informatics. Affordable and highly regarded.

Hi Everyone, Sorry I didn't get a notification of any messages. I should finish my MSN-Informatics with Chamberlain at the end of the year. I just started my practicum.

In regards to credit hour charges, they do post them. It's standard, I am an alumni and veteran so I pay $550/credit. Regular tuition is $650. https://www.chamberlain.edu/admissions/tuition-expenses

Preceptor was almost impossible to find unless you are already in the business. For this reason, they have created a Second Life practicum. The cool thing is that my preceptor is Dr. Hebda who has written books on the field and is probably one of the first to specialize or formalize this specialty. I have good access to her imo.

The practicum is project based and they want it to have a national impact. For example, I am doing usability testing on a national patient portal. We have meetings on WebEx and Second Life. They encourage collaboration with other students. I like it so far. Starting the practicum after a year of taking a break due to cross country move and my attempts of finding a local preceptor failed. They offered me Second Life at that point. I am actively learning all the parts of a project execution. I feel like I understand more of what informatics is like. I am not working in the field so I am by no means an expert.

Could the program be better in brick and mortar school? Sure, but military life makes a 2 year local commitment hard for me personally so I chose an online school. Program objectives are clear. Assignments have very detailed rubric so I am not wondering what is needed to get a good grade. If you think another program is better for you, go for it. I would not say that the program itself is disorganized or bad. These are my personal opinions and I respect the opinions of others. I hope this helps.

Tank you so much !!

There are more reputable ONLINE programs than Chamberlin.

I have a BS in Computer Science and I am currently completing my BSN Nursing degree in 1 year! You can't do NI without a BSN first. Any reputable program will require this. After my BSN, I will be getting my masters in Information Systems with a focus in Data Analytics. This is what NI requires as well as for the Future. Many of you RNs without technical skills and understanding are not suited for what's to come for NI. A Nursing Informatics Program is rudimentary and does not well prepare for the present and future. Use your CS degree for its value. Get into a one year BSN program. Many state schools and hospitals offer this. Stay away from for-profit programs that are solely online. Unless they are attached to a public university.
