Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for anyone beginning the online FNP program this July 2017. If anyone is interested, we can start a Facebook group as well.
Did they tell you for sure you could double up? I got accepted but when I asked about taking 2 at a time I was told that it had to get submitted to the Dean for approval? I'm 44 years old and got credit for 3 classes I took at SXU but want to get to my clinicals ASAP.
Yes, they submit your student portfolio to the Dean (transcripts, GPA, courses taken, etc.) and once the Dean approves it, you can double up. You are not allowed to double up the first course (NR 500) or the core FNP courses, beginning with NR 509 (Advanced Physical assessment)
Most of the FNP students I've spoken to say it's best to take Patho (NR 507) & Pharm (NR 508) separately because they are so time intensive.
I'm doubling up only in Sept, Nov & Jan, which shaves 6 months time off the length of the program. I'm doubling NR 501/NR 512, NR 505/NR 506 and NR 510/NR 503.
If you're a good student and in good academic standing, you should get approval. They just want to make sure you have the time to devote to your studies.
I just submitted my application and was sent a practicum document to fill out before I can register for classes. I didn't think I needed a practicum site until at least a year in. I'm supposed to start August 28 but now I'm not so sure it's going to happen.
You are only identifying a potential site. It doesn't have to be the site you actually use. They just want to see that you are being proactive in trying to line up a site, so by the time clinicals roll around, you actually have secured a preceptor. I identified 4 potential sites. Two of them were only approved for 3 of my clinicals (internal medicine, no OB or Peds). The other 2 sites were approved for all of my clinicals (family medicine that includes OB).
I basically looked up family medicine practices in my area and e-mailed them, asking if they take NP students and gave them the future dates of my clinicals. All 4 of the sites I contact said they take NP students and gave me the name of the coordinator to contact. All you need to provide for the admission is the name, address, phone & contact name of the site you wish to use. That's it. They simply call and verify that they take NP students. They do not use your name, you are not required to have a contract in place. That comes later when you're lining up your actual site (or sites, if you are using multiple practices).

Msjulian, Kittieburgard & TLOVELYRN: I sent each of you a PM with the link to the FB group for CCN FNP students. I didn't realize you guys couldn't PM me because of your post count. I'll "see" you on FB. Welcome to the group!
We can get through this together
