Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Published

Hello everyone!I am new to this site : ). I got accepted into Chamberlain about a month ago for tr Oct.29th start date.. Which I'm super excited about!! I was just wondering if anyone knows how the schedule for the nursing classes work? Is it an all day think like 9-4 like I've heard or is it shorter? Reason I ask is because I have a 2 year old and with classes approaching soon I want to make sure everything is taken care of when it comes to child care and pick up times. Also, anyone else starting in October as well? I've read a lot of good things about Chamberlain. I can't wait to start!

Like 38000 or so

Oh that's not so terrible. This is for the RN program including the bachelors? Just making sure ;) i need to decide between browaed college or chamberlain....i hear horror stories from BCC.....going to set up an appointment soon to ask about the program :) Thx!!

At miramar the rn is always a bachelors.. so yes. And it'll take the same amount of time as an associates from BCC so timewise chamberlain makes a lot more sense. It's also an incredibly intensive program, though. Most people can't work while doing it so keep that part in mind. The schedules can be crazy. In the end though? worth it.

So the working part may be a challenge...do you think part time work would still make this program a challenge? I plan on getting a job part time doing two days a week 8 hour shift and a Saturday 4 hours. If so....college is more important ;)

Did you or are you attending the CC at Miramar? Can you share your experiences as far as pros or cons or what you like or dislike?

You could manage part time.. as long as they were understanding that you might need to switch days every two months. My semester in September/October I'm on campus every monday from either 8:30a-12p or 8:30a-3p (switches every other week) and every wednesday from either 1p-6p or 3p-6p (switches every other week) plus two tuesdays are 9a-5p and four saturdays are 9a-5p and im taking a 3rd class online (pathos - i got special permission to take it online because i just couldnt squeeze in the hours and im holding a 4.0 average). And that semester doesn't have any clinical hours! November will be similar plus a 12 hour shift at one of our local hospitals. lol.

I like the school so far. I really do.. but I have a child that's still breast feeding and it's been really intensive trying to get enough hours to study and take care of my schooling while caring for him. The big pro is that it takes much less time to get a BSN than it would anywhere else. The huge negative for me has been the cost. This school is really not cheap and adding books in and hell.. gas for all the driving Im doing and its a bit of a burden. But, it should be worth it in the end. I hope.

You know what??? You are a strong person to be doing what you are doing! :D I give you props. Very smart to be in college and making a career for your family. A lot of places pay and do reimbursement for your education. Just have to find the right places. Don't worry...you pay off loans just like anything else in life....except you have a good college to back you up and learn great skills! :)

Plus you make well enough $$$ later to pay it back.

Did you figure out what your school payments will be after you finish? The loan and interest? I'm just curious to know....going to set up an appt to see what I would be paying later down the road with my prerequisites completed.

I haven't figured it out because it's so variable with nurses. Almost every good job out there will pay off part of your loans, you see. It's part of a standard hiring package. Plus, there's NurseCore... if you can win their scholarship (which gods knows I'm trying) they give you a free ride.... but if you apply AFTER you graduate.. they have a loan repayment program, too.

I don't plan on paying off much of my loans myself. I'm really hoping to find enough repayment programs and hiring packages that the cost will be different.

Ontop of that, the minute you graduate you apply to consolidate all your loans into one lump.. that resets everything and lowers the rates.. you shift to a 30 year plan and you shouldnt HAVE to spend more than 500 a month though you should pay as much as you humanly can to rid yourself of the debt that you cant get rid of through other means. ;)

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in going to Chamberlaine. I am a newlywed and I am worried that I won't be getting financial aid. I applied at MDC and I didn't get in. Do anyone know how their financial aid system works?

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in going to Chamberlaine. I am a newlywed and I am worried that I won't be getting financial aid. I applied at MDC for January and I didn't get in. Do anyone know how their financial aid system works? I am so worried that I will have to pay out a lot from my pocket.

Financial aid is a government thing. It all depends on how much you make. You fill out the online form (fasfa) and it determines what your contribution is vs what theirs is... unless you're talking private loans. Fasfa is completely based on your IRS tax forms. So, if you made a lot last year.. be prepared to be paying out of pocket unless you get private loans. Private loans require good credit, basically.

Thanks Meeshie

I want to knock off all my prerequisites before I start chamberlain just to reduce cost. Lord knows I dont have it but Nursing is my passion and I want to finish. I need to do the Logics classes. Does anyone know if Chamberlaine takes CLEP passes?
