Anyone know anything about this place?
Hi everyone, new to the board CONGRATS to everyone who got in so far. I hope that is me soon!!! So I contacted Chamberlain and waiting to speak to the Addison campus tomorrow. Will I meet someone on campus or do everything over the phone/internet. I am really hoping to apply for the October start. Does anyone know of the cut off date for it? How quickly do I need to take the HESI? I am attending a community college but only in my 1st semester so not too worried about transferring credits, thankfully!
Hi everyone. I'm brand new to this and would love some more insight on Chamberlain (either Chicago or Addison) as the school itself has been less than helpful. I would be a junior at my school in WI but changed my major from education to nursing and am now trying to decide where to go. Chamberlain is on my list but I need more information. People keep saying it's expensive- 8,000 a semester but the site says 8,000 per academic year so which is accurate? Also, do they offer housing on these campuses? I want to attend my university next fall and transfer for the February start but would that work for financial aid?
Also, this site is kind of worrying me in general. Is it really that hard to find nursing jobs out there? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated- I feel like I'm having my midlife crisis at 20 years old!
JustAbe - I am not at Chicago or Addison, I am actually in Columbus, Oh. I just completed my first year and am going into my final year. I did most of my pre-reqs at another school so I have (mainly) just been taking my nursing classes. I happen to love the program. It is challenging, and I feel like this is why a lot of people get so mad at the program (because they can't quite cut it). It is difficult and they definitely do prepare you to take the HESI (exit exam) and the NCLEX. I don't know why anyone would complain about this, so long as the basic education is there as well as the clinical aspect. Speaking of, my last clinical was at a nursing home but extremely educational!
As far as the job market, Columbus is one of the cities in America that is NOT in a nursing shortage (most other places are in desperate need of nurses). The reason we are not is because we have like 4 or 5 nursing schools in the city, and more just outside of the city. Anyway, I say we are not in a nursing shortage but we are not over demand either. I think people are just having to take jobs that they don't necessarily want. I believe a lot of nurses come out of school wanting a hospital job and are taken back when they cannot land that job, and have to take a job in a nursing home, prison, or clinic. I read an article about this problem and that is actually why (last year) I immediately started looking for a job in a hospital and luckily I do now work as a PCA at a great hospital. Anyway, point is - they do try to hire within here. If you work for them as a PCA then you go to the top of the list when you become an RN... so although it was a steep pay cut for me, I am hoping the end result will pay off.
Hope that helps, and don't fret it will all work out great in the end! Nursing will never not be in high demand, so don't worry too much. Chamberlain is a great school, good luck!
Went to check out the campus today and began the admission process. I was impressed with the school and I can't wait to take the A2 test, already scheduled, and receive the final word that I am accepted (staying positive that I will be accepted for October ) Now to prepare for the A2 and not freak myself out!
My adviser told me today, since they had their first graduating class, next one this week, they have a 97% passing rate...just wanted to share!

Oh if they told you it was going to take a while then don't worry! Both your gpa and your HESI scores are good. Once they accept you, make sure you are on top of everything and get all the paper work done asap so that you wont be stressing out about that the week before school. Good luck!
