I am thinking about going to Chamberlain. I was a community college in St. Louis, but recently moved to Georgia. I want to get going and get my career going.
Is there anyone on here that is/has went to Chamberlain?
Pros/Cons? What are the major requirements?
I just need some insight on the school. They say there isn't a wait list, is that true?
Is it worth the money? I have all but two pre-reqs done, so I don't think it cost as much.
Is it a good/decent school to get a nursing degree from?
I'm hopefully starting 2014 spring semester.
well I went the financial adviser and she told me about the tuition which is super expensive, and I know I'm out of hope, grants and pretty much I'm left with loans from gov and loan from private (wellsfargo). But I still wanted to go here, because I took a whole year taking my prerequisites at GSU and chamberlain told me I got 2 years and one semester to complete my BSN. I been in school too long, since 2009, switching majors, and now all I wanted is just want to finish nursing school and find a career in it. The total cost is like 57k for the whole program; I calculated with each credit hours. So I probably have to get a private loan first for the first year (25K) and do my taxes next year to get better subsidized loan from a the gov to lower my private loan which I'll balance out with my subsidized loan from 25k. Then the second year I could pay 25K out my pocket or get another loan which equal out to 50K. and the last year with one semester I'll pay it off with 7K. But idk, if I do this, I'm going to give it all I got, meaning I'll have to work two/three days a week and really focus in class. I'm just worry if I can't land an job with I'm done with school that's the only problem but my family really believe in me, my dad do, and believes that I'll find a job after I got my bsn and pass the nclex-rn because he said RN is really market even in today economy. So i got probably 6 months in that time frame to find a RN job before starting to pay back my loans, if not I'm in trouble. SO akilah530 how is the chamberlain and how's the class, is it difficult and how clinical?
Sony007 our situations are SOOOO similar...
I too have been in school since 2009, taking prerequisites waiting for GSU to accept me...
I'm out of hope, and apparently my mom "makes to much" (which is total bull) for me to even get any type of grants.
I'll have to use my subsidized loans and probably private loans from Wells Fargo... My total debt when I graduate will be around 60k I have calculated everything correctly.
BUT... When we graduate we will have out BSN... And by time we graduate (2016) the nursing demand will probably be much better... (I have tried to do some research)
I'm going to take the chance and leap out on faith and do it. Yes it's a lot of money but I have spoken to a lot of nurses at my job and they seem to think Chamberlain is a very reputable nursing school. So that made me feel a lot better.
Hope to see you in January!
Oh okay if feel a little better.:), i guess I'm not alone in this. So are you going to start next semester or you already started? When are you starting clinical?[/quote']I'm planning to start in January. I've already went and done all the registration procedures, I'm literally just waiting to get my finances in order. According to my plan I won't start clinical a until summer or 2014... No you're not alone! :)
Is just the remaining portion of the program you have to finish (after your credits applied!) the $57k? Yikes!!! I do not have that many credits to transfer (around 30-32) and have no idea how they apply...There is NO way I can afford to loan that kind of debt out! I have three little boys and am a single mother...I have pell and currently have 15k in loans already.
How do you make payments? By sessions or semesters?
Well, I already got a loan from wells fargo for 25k but I'm getting some gov subsidize loans to pay whatever is left of 2014 -2015 back to wells fargo, I think around 15k - 18k for that year and other is for my gov loan, totaling 25k. For my 2015 - 2016 I could pay 25k out of my pocket or take another loan but think about it as it get there. For my last year 2016/one semester, I'll pay 7k out of my pocket for sure. That my plan, Its a tough investment but I'm 99% sure I can get land a job afterwards during my six month grace period. Next year its going to be all studying!!
