Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Published

I am thinking about going to Chamberlain. I was a community college in St. Louis, but recently moved to Georgia. I want to get going and get my career going.

Is there anyone on here that is/has went to Chamberlain?

Pros/Cons? What are the major requirements?

I just need some insight on the school. They say there isn't a wait list, is that true?

Is it worth the money? I have all but two pre-reqs done, so I don't think it cost as much.

Is it a good/decent school to get a nursing degree from?

I am currently in half way through my second semester at Chamberlain College of Nursing here in Illinois.

Let me answer your questions... :specs:

Is there anyone on here that is/has went to Chamberlain?

Like I said, I am currently in the middle of the "trifecta" semester, which is one of the hardest semester in Chamberlain. It entails: Fundamentals of Nursing, Health Assessment and Patho. It is extremely hard but with alot of hard work, studying and dedication it is possible.

Pros/Cons? What are the major requirements?

Pros: Amazing and involved professors, and I think that was something that I was looking for in a school. Amazing professors, they are very much involved in your success and will remediate with you in case you do not pass a test.

Note: For all nursing classes, there are 4 exams, each one has to be above a 76% or all FOUR MUST AVERAGE ABOVE A 76% anything less than that is failing. BUT! Even if you pass the class if you do not pass the clinical portion- you automatically fail the class. No pressure :mask:

The school is very face paced, what normal nursing students do in 16 weeks, we do in 8. So our class turn around is every 8 weeks, in which is good and bad. It's good because if you don't appreciate the course, you get it done and over with in 8 weeks. Bad because it's a lot of material. For example, I had midterms this week... for all three classes. Holy smokes! It was extremely intense and after two tests in one day we had a mandatory Med Calculation Math session, which no one could function in lol because we were so fried. My fellow classmates are amazing, it totally doesn't feel like high school. Everyone is very much dedicated to Nursing and are on top of their game and we have a motto: "No nurse left behind!". Have met some amazing people along the courses. All the departments (Financial, Student Services and Tutor) are all amazing and are there to help you. Now the Clinical Compliance department, not so friendly and this is at my location, not speaking for everyone in general. Overall, it is alot of work and stressful but nursing students know what they signed up for!

Cons:

If you have to take any A&P, Micro, Psych, Speech, etc. classes you will be taking them through Devry. Don't get me wrong Devry is a great institution but... I just feel that they are very unorganized. I have learned alot, I will say that much... but I am not a fan of them.

Another con would be that it is so expensive. It is super expensive. The only reason I am able to attend is because I took out a private loan through the school, and that is the only reason why I am able to afford it. But honestly, I think it's worth it. They have great staff and instructors, a state of the art Sim Lab with manniquens that poop, cough, pee, give birth... you name it we have it! So very much worth every penny.

As for the couple of prereq's that you have... I say that you go ahead and apply if you DO want to be a Chamberlain Nurse :smug:... I say apply now get started on your nursing career and they will fit in the rest of the preereqs that you have to do. I could of continued with my education at a community college, but honestly... I was wasting time.

No prerequisite requirements, there is a GPA requirement and an HESI A1 entrance exam *in which if you do decide to attend and need further explanation on what to study for we can get in contact*. And there is no waiting list, but! They do choose the students with the higher GPA and highest entrance exams to get first dibs on the courses. They admit students for Spring, Summer and Fall which is awesome.

Is it worth the money? I have all but two pre-reqs done, so I don't think it cost as much.

I cherry picked all of the prereq's I wanted to take, I transferred in 30 credit hours which knocked off a year in the program. I started May of 2015 and will graduate at the end of Summer semester in 2015. So technically speaking, it will take me 3 years for my BSN, but its a BSN and not an ADN.

As for the money, yes it is very much worth it! My campus is extremely organize and systematic into the way they do things. They are there to help you with whatever you need in order to be successful. All of the professors are constantly motivating you and telling you to keep trucking. It's amazing, specially when it starts to take a toll on you. Nursing school is for the strong minded, you need to learn how to control your mind. I honestly don't think about all of the work or material I have to cover. I make a list of what needs to get done and what projects or items are pending and I DO IT! If you get hung up on how much work you have to do, you will drive yourself crazy. I'm still stressed regardless, but I know I can!

My cousin is a social worker here in Chicago, well her boss manages all of the case manager and she has a MSN degree. She has worked with Chamberlain nurses and she says that they are among some of the best nursing students she has seen. Instructors here, don't play! They want you to be on top of your game and look like it.

Let me know if I can help you in any other way!

:nurse:

Come to the Chamberlain team! Where we are extraordinary nurses

Correction:

Started in may of 2013.

Ivonne.Avitia what school do you go to if Addison I might see you around I just got accepted for the spring. If you transferred in 30 credit and will be done exactly two years then I will be done in about two years as well cause I transferred in 41 credits. So I'm excited about that I'm in a nursing program now but it's an ADN program and I'll be done in June 2015 if I stay there. But I might as well go to Chamberlain and sacrifice 6 more months to get my BSN and it's closer to my house. I'm soooo happy I've read your message about your credits and how long it will take. I meet with the financial aid office on Monday.

Mickey,

Yes, I'm at the Addison campus! Welcome to the Chamberlain team!!! So excited, you are going to love it. But be prepared for the ride of your life. Chamberlain life is more intense. I may have some books for you to use, so KIP. Are you transfering in any nursing classes? Once you start at Chamberlain, half way into your semester of your first semester you will do a "Plan of Study" which is where your advisor breaks down your semesters into what you will when and it tells you. So I'd graduate late August of 2015. So technically speaking!!!!! You would sacrifice an additional 3 months for a BSN, very smart!!!

Ivonne.Avitia,

Thanks and I will keep KIP. Thanks for the advice. I'm taking fundamentals now with the ADN program I will get the transcripts tomorrow to see if it will transfer over when I speak with Chamberlain's advisor on Monday.

Hey guys.. I just went to Chamberlain in Atlanta, and talk with the adviser and he give me all the details. I did pass my hesi A2 with a 84 total. 88 in science, and 82 both in my English and math section, though they only average your math and English, which is 82. I just finish the hesi last week, Friday. However, I haven't gotten a phone call yet, I am kind of worry. I been waiting for them for while, because the lady at the front desk told me to wait for Tuesday to call back, but I haven't gotten a phone so I left a message, asking would call me back. Idk if I could get in. My GPA is 3.56 currently but at Georgia State University (currently at) I can probably finish this semester and bring up to a 3.59 or 3.6. What can my chances of getting in? ps I'm applying for the spring of 2014 at Chamberlain.

Your GPA and HESI scores are just fine...just hold on, I'm sure that you will get call soon.

Thanks!! Yet that help a lot, I'm just worry because I haven't heard from them in about a week.

Call them, it can't hurt!

Yeah I did, like on last Wednesday but all I got was message:telling me that my adviser will contact me within 24 to 48, but it has past 48 hours already. Maybe on Monday I'll call them again because of the weekend being close.
