CGFNS and Visa screen... when BON?

Hi again... and thank you for the advice for the CGFNS exam stuff. I am still missing small bits and bobs :crying2: about this visa screen and Boards of Nursing.

I understand the CGFNS mob do the visa screens and I have read the info on the web site as well as Suzanne4's valuable advice. Will the CGFNS require again all the forms to be filled in by the school (blue form with hours theoretical and clinical) or will it be enough if the schools send the transcripts to complete the data they already have????? I have done the TOEFL and TWE, TSE pending and planning to start the visa screen process now.

Another shadowy one... when can I apply to take the NCLEX then? Must I wait until I get results from my July CGFNS before I can apply and have ATT?

Looking fwd to hearing from you!

geena

I am an American RN with over 25 years of work experience in the US. I now live and work in Bangkok, Thailand. I own and operate the only licensed school in the Lingdom teaching Conversational English to nurses and doctors over here. We also prepare nurses for working in the US.

California will take you about 6 months to get a letter to take NCLEX exam.

Florida will be much quicker, especially since you already have CGFNS certificate, however the salaries from there will be less than California.

Something to keep in mind. But since you have the CGFNS certificate you can go anywhere in the US.

Hope that this helps.................... :balloons:

Wow! You're great! Thanks for all your help. I can see that you are helping a lot of Asian nurses. I am from Asia too, specifically the Philippines and we have a lot of nurses here who are wanting to go to US and earn more as the opportunities here are less. A lot of nurses did not practice nursing for years due to lack of opportunities and when US opened again, some of them went back to hospitals.

Some agencies accept nurses even without experience after they graduated. They say the hospital setting in our country is much different from that of US' so they don't mind. What do you think about that?

Have a nice day!

Personally, there are only a few agencies that I would even consider using. Most have no idea of what nurses do and are just there for the money from the hospital and could really care less about you.

That is why I set up my program for nurses from SE Asia so that no one would get taken advantage of. At least I know that my students won't. We teach all of the differences found between the US hospitals and the hospitals on this side of the world. And there are significant differences.

My personal opinion.....................stay away from most of those agencies....

Why do you even need them?

hi suzanne, i think we share the same sentiments here. i'm just wondering.. ever consider putting up a school here in manila? why not?! :)

Right now I am concentrating on Thailand, but you are more than welcome to come here....................

 hi suzanne,i'd like to thank you first for the wonderful informations that you are sharing in this forum,I really appreciate your being so helpful to everybody.I would like to ask you some questions, too.I am currently working in Canada but was trained in the Philippines and I am planning to move to Florida or Texas.I passed my CGFNS test in 1994.Does it have an expiration date?I am planning to get started on applying for a visa screen,so as what I understand fr.the previous discussions,I have to take those english tests.I was able to waive it here in Canada so I didn't have to take it.I guess bec I was trained in the Phils,I have to take it,eh?and also CGFNS has my papers already but not my papers as a canadian nurse,do i send it to them or the BON?sorry for bombarding you with lots of questions but i'm confused on where to get started and is tempted to get an agency to help me.Any idea about working in Texas or Florida as how are the hospital/training/orientation as well as cost of living and salary?thank you in advance!

CGFNS scores are only good for two years. But for those states, I know especially Florida, you only need credentials verification from CGFNS, not the exam. You will need to submit a complete new set of papers to CGFNS for the credentials verification, as well as the Visa Screen if those are the two states in which you want to work. You will need to complete the NCLEX exam as well as the full series of English exams to qualify for the Visa Screen Certificate.

You will need to apply directly to the Board of Nursing where you wish to practice. Most states have the forms available on-line for you to download.

They will also require a set of documents from the Philippines, as well as Canada.

I would worry more about getting all of those documents and applications taking care of, before even thinking of placement.

Get that started and then send another post, and I will help you with the next step.
