Age limit for CRNA job?

  1. How long you can administer anesthesia? I didn't see any CRNAs in age of 60 or older. What type of job can they do when close to retirement?

There is a 60 year old CRNA in my department that still does 100 hrs OT a month (her choice). There are several others in their late 50's or early 60's, but most of them aren't taking call any more. As long as you're physically able, age is not an issue.

Is it physically demanding working as a CRNA? Excuse my ignorance about the profession as I am a student nurse who has yet to explore other nursing specialties.

my father, an anesthesiologist (not RN), continued to practice into his early 70s -- he was healthy, fit, and capable, and wasn't interested in retiring. He did have an arrangement within his group practice that he didn't take call anymore -- just gave anesthesia during regular working hours, M-F.
