I am an RN with nearly 20 years of experience. I have wanted to be a midwife since I did a creative display project about the profession for HOSA competition when I was in my practical nursing program. Labor and delivery jobs are hard to cone by here so I never got that experience. After teaching for the past three years I have decided its time. I am interested in Frontier and Vanderbilt. Neither my ADN nor BSN required me to take Chemistry so I'm wondering if that is something I will have to go back and pick up. Also, my stats class was taken a community college and I hope to never see that class again, but will do whatever it takes. If you need the assessment class do you take it before you apply or do they add it into your schedule? So many questions I know. We have arranged our finances so that I shouldn't have to work. My husband is retired military and we have four children. I have a decent GPA of 3.9. Is there any advise you can offer because this has been my dream for so long and I really don't want to screw it up.

No advice but right there with you!

No advice either, but midwifery is an amazing job! Good luck on your journey :)

When I applied to midwifery school, they accepted a math CLEP that had a statistics component. So I imagine your CC stats class is more than acceptable. It is my understanding that you need a physical assessment class before you can enter the program- at least, my program requires it prior to acceptance.

mommy-when do you think you will apply? I am planning to apply to the Vanderbilt 2016 program, but have to finish up my BSN first(almost done).

I plan to apply for entry this summer, but of course that will depend on how many classes I may need to take before I enter. I was looking at Vanderbilt too, but when I was reading tonight, it looks like their CNM program would require me to relocate. Might have read it wrong though. Georgetown is so far away for me. Congrats on almost finishing your BSN Katie. I wish they would email me back from Frontier. None of the local colleges offer the assessments class online and with work I can't go to an actual class just yet. I guess I won't have any choice but to take it with Frontier and pay for it out of pocket. Ugh!!

Thanks mommy. Yes, Vanderbilt's program will have you relocate. My only issue with Vanderbilt is that some of your clinicals may be out of the Nashville area, and even out of state....which makes me nervous with 4 children(we would also have to relocate to go there), but I want a brick and mortar school vs online because I learn better that way. Frontier....I've heard great things about it, and y ou can study in your area, but you are responsible for finding your own clinical placements which can be problematic.

I got good news today. My statistics class is going to count. Thank God. Now just to take the Physical Assessment class. I learn better at brick and mortar also, but our home sits on family land and hubby doesn't want to sell. With me not working after I start school, we would be hard pressed to afford two homes on just my hubbies retirement. The advisor didn't mention anything about Chemistry even though I asked so I guess that isn't a problem.

Just wanted to share what I heard from Frontier today. I am going to try to take the Physical Assessment class that starts on January 5th and should end sometime in April; however, the deadline for applying to Class 139 is March 13th. I asked if I had to have the Physical Assessment class completely finished before I could apply or did I simply need to be enrolled and almost finished. She replied back saying that I needed to have it completely finished. So I guess that means I will now be applying for Class 140. Oh well, it's just two months and in the grand scheme of things it really itsn't that much longer. I wanted to post it here because I read back quite a bit on the forums and couldn't find this answer so I will put the answer Frontier gave me today on here in case anyone else might wonder.
