CEP program in Arizona

Published

Ill be moving to Arizona this May and have been trying to look up as much information as I can on the CEP program. I've finished all the pre recs for Scottsdale community college and the University as well. Does anyone know how long it takes to get into the CEP program? Ive been reading a lot and people go back and fourth about it taking along time vs it not. Also has anyone else attended Scottsdale community college for the nursing program? I was also looking at applying for Gateway? Anything will help! Thanks!!

I'f you go to the Arizona board here on allnurses, there is a Maricopa CEP thread where I am sure you will get help. I'm in Tucson so I didn't apply to the Maricopa schools, but my understanding is that there is no waitlist, either you get in during the application cycle you apply to, or you have to reapply during the next cycle. Also, I believe you increase your chances if you apply to more than one of the community colleges.

I was at an info session at Mesa CC yesterday and the waitlist for Maricopa Nursing is 2years UNLESS you apply to one of the CEPs. If you are accepted to the CEP partner school, you are moved off the waitlist & will start in the upcoming semester. Right now (April1st-May 31st) they are accepting CEP applications for Spring 2020 semester, but to turn in a CEP application, you must 1st turn in a Maricopa application (yes, you can do them at the same time).

Hi CEP is competitive entry, so make sure you do well on your HESI A2 entrance exam! Once you apply - if you are accepted you will get in the next semester. There is no wait list for the CEP. If you are applying for the ADN traditional, the wait list is currently about 2 years.

Hey @Dknowles91! It is my understanding that the time it takes to get accepted as a CEP student depends on your overall score (i.e. the score from your HESI, GPA, previous degrees, prior failed nursing school attempts, etc.). However, if your score is competitive enough, then you should be admitted into the upcoming acceptance cycle. So say you submitted your application during the intake period between April and May, you should start nursing school in January. Or, if you submitted the application between December and January, you should start in August. From what I've heard, the start dates can vary a little. I am sure as you know you want to submit your traditional application as soon as possible once you've completed the pre-application courses and additional pre-requisite courses. The traditional program's waiting list can take up to 2.5 years, but if what I heard is true, then the higher your score the less time you have to wait. If you do not get accepted during the intake period you want, you will have to submit another CEP application. You would want to do this until you either get accepted as a CEP student or you are admitted as a traditional nursing student. Luckily there is so much information on this website that can help answer your questions. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you have already started. Best of luck!
