Good Morning! I was just wondering if anyone in Arizona has information on Central Arizona College nursing program? I would really like to go to attend Gateway's nursing program, but the wait is so stinkin' long...! I am 37yrs old (almost 38 yrs) and I don't want to wait 2 yrs. I am in the process of finishing my pre reqs from Gateway (I am almost done with them) and I am getting my CNA this summer. I am planning on working as a CNA or PCT while I am on the waiting list as well as completing the co reqs, but I would really like to get accepted into nursing school as soon as possible. I know CAC doesn't technically have a wait list. I know the residents of Pinal County have priority, but it is still a shorter wait than the Maricopa County CC's wait list. I have heard that some hospitals in Maricopa County won't hire nurses from CAC. I don't understand....A nursing degree from CAC is the same nursing degree from any of the MCCC's....right? Any nurses from CAC having problems finding jobs in Maricopa County (Banner, Scottsdale Healthcare, etc....). HELP.....!

I have a friend who was JUST accepted into this program. I'll ask her about it. The only thing I can tell you for sure, you already know about. (The CNA requirement and Pinal Residents getting to the head of the line...although I do know there are people in her class from Pima and Maricopa.)
Thanks KristeyK...! I appreciate the response. Let me know what you find out. :-)

Don't let your age deter you though, I am a decade and then some ahead of you and just starting this August with the actual nursing program. I was on the wait list since October 2008. I looked int CAC as well, but driving to Coolidge for school and Casa Grande for clinicals was not that appealing either. Be sure to check out the quality of the program, especially if you have heard rumors that concern you. Good Luck and don't worry, you will get there one day!

Hi patientlywaiting2008! Thank you so much for the reply...you are right, I should not let my age deter me. I have plenty of time. :-) I did look at the thread you suggested and it helped! Thank you so much and good luck with the nursing program this August....I am so jealous! :-)

Both, I believe, will be very helpful to you once in the Nursing program. With the current issues facing new grads, some students that are now on the waitlist might even opt not to continue and look at other career choices, so the waiting time might decrease. In any case, I wish you the best of luck with everything.

Thank you for all of the advice! I will get into nursing school sooner or later...either way, I am excited. I will just finish my pre reqs then my co reqs and wait patiently...Good luck to you this fall...! I would love to hear how it goes...keep me posted. By the way, what nursing school are you attending?

Hi Sophias Mom, I am attending CAC, currently in 3rd block. Do you still have questions about CAC? I'd be happy to answer anything I can.

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday for admission in January 2012 for Block 1! I am so excited. We have our preview day on Nov. 29 and can't wait to start this next part of the journey!
Oldladyrn2012, how has your experience been at CAC? Where have clinicals been?
Thanks so much and I am excited for you to be in block 3!!!
