Hi all-
I made this thread for everyone hoping to get into CCSF's spring 2016 RN program, so we can keep each other updated.
This would be my 4th attempt in getting into the program since I finished my prereqs and gen ed in 2011, got my LVN license in 2013 because after my first 2 failed attempts, I figured I might as well get my LVN while waiting to get into the RN program.
I submitted my application in person today because I was told I'd be put in two different lottery pools (one for regular enrollment and one for advanced placement for lvns) which could increase my chances of getting in, and needed to have my license verified in person. This would be my first time applying for the advanced placement, because I'd rather not skip a sem so I can benefit from taking the courses to refresh my memory. Are there any of you fellow lvns who've tried applying through both the regular enrollment and the Advanced placement, and can tell me about their experience/how the process works?
I was also told the reason why they won't be posting results online ever anymore is due to HIPAA or privacy of the applicants/future students, which is very much understandable. We should expect to hear back for results November or December! And so the waiting game begins..Good luck to us all! ðŸ™ðŸ»ðŸ™ðŸ»ðŸ™ðŸ»
I was thinking the same thing but you have a good point m0nobear! So I'm assuming everyone who was first accepted was allowed to register by now i got the same message v_415. I'm debating if iI should call since the woman did say she'd let someone know so I can register or if I should just wait until orientation? Regardless, I'll see you all there!
First of all i want to say congratz to everyone that got in! I was one of the lucky ones- got fitted for uniform Dec 4th, and now i am anxiously awaiting orientation to come around. How's everyone doing on their certified profile checklist?! Has anyone purchased their books? And by any chance does anyone know how many days a week we'll be in school/clinical? i know i know lots of questions!!
Oh and i just heard something that has me stressing out, something about CCSF potentially losing its accreditation. HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD ABOUT THIS?! What does this mean for nursing students?! i just heard about this and now I don't know what to think. I got lucky enough to get selected, and found a place in the city and now i hear this?
Omg what certified profile checklist?!!!??? Tell me more!!! O_O ... I'm waiting for a credit card in the mail to begin all my school purchases LOL (uniform, certified background.com, CPR class on dec 16... etc)... I hope I'm not running behind?!
I think clinicals start 5th week(??) and we are in two separate groups- one goes to Laguna hospital, the other SF general and we switch mid semester. It's 18 hrs (2 days a week) every two weeks w one week off. This was info I dug up from previous semesters...
Btw, I've lived in SF the past 11 yrs and been following the accreditation fiasco -- don't worry, they won't be losing it. The accreditation organization that put ccsf at this level is being investigated. CCSF is a great school and there's no way in hell the doors will close. I promise you this.
SEE YOU ALL DEC 9 :D
Hello everyone! Just wanted to check in with those of you still following this thread. Can you believe we're only 2 weeks away from our first day on this new journey!? I'm very excited. We've had a lot to do to prep for beginning the program and I have all but two things left to take care of which is why I am reaching out to my fellow class mates. First question I have is about SHOES! What kind of shoes did you all purchase? The only qualification I saw was that they had to be white and leather. I'm guessing this means no mesh which is too bad because I would've liked some comfy athletic shoes but I don't think they're going to be allowed. Second question, I just went to the American Heart Association to schedule my CPR but I'm unsure which class to register for. Is the class called "BLS for Healthcare Providers?" I'd hate to register for the wrong class but this one makes no mention of using AED or involving infants and two-person rescue so I'm not sure if this is the one. If you can give any feedback on where you did yours or know what your course is called, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks and see you all first day.
Futurenurse,
surely by now you've figured out the CPR class. The BLS class you were talking about was correct. It's the only one for "healthcare professionals"... If you ask they'll know what you need. -do not!!! go to American Red Cross!!!-
shoes: I had a terrible time finding shoes. Looks like sketchers has an all white athletic shoe and yesterday I saw a pedestrian with k Swiss leather white shoes. I took advantage of visiting TX and went to a reebok store (no footlockers here carry reebok shoes anymore!!) and got a reebok woman's classic leather white shoe. They're not ugly! Yay!
---------------
For anyone: i was wondering if anyone wanted to meet at a coffeeshop and test each other on medical terminology and abbreviations with flash cards (and conversions!) just to solidify confidence and randomization.. anywhere by a BART station.... would be fun.
PS any good LED pen lights? My $5 off amazon is already malfunctioning!
Question!!!!
on certified profile website, I used the green form for the physical exam (scanned front and back) but it was rejected because I didn't use the 2013 form from the certified profile website.
Is this what Noonan was talking about in orientation? .... will she "bypass" the rejection or do I have to go back to my doctor and fill out the 2013 form from the website? :|
p.s. My flu shot documentation was denied too bc it didn't show it was from "2015-2016" batch.... even though its dated December 16, 2015!!
Hi all-I received the letter from CCSF today stating they carefully reviewed my application but couldn't admit me due to my gpa, I will be calling them on Monday to get a breakdown of how they came up with a 2.43 gpa, I have an A in English (3 units), B for micro, (4 units), C for Anatomy (4 units) and C for Physiology (5 units)= 2.63 gpa. I wish they miscalculated in error
Hey! Did you ever find out if they miscalculated your GPA? I'm very interested in applying to the program and I have the same grades as you but I'm nervous to apply if they didn't accept your GPA.
I did, they calculated based on my English 100 (I got a B) instead of my English 110 ( which is a higher level English I got an A on) My anatomy will be expiring by fall so I can technically reapply after I retake..but I've moved on and decided to go for the LVN-RN bridge at Unitek College instead..It's a lot of $$$ but I realized it will only take me 8 months instead of 2 years, I'd be losing the same or more amount of $$$ not being able to work FT for 2 yrs..Wishing you good luck :)
