CCBC FALL 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all!

I just submitted my application to CCBCs Essex Day program for Fall '19. I immediately felt like I was going to puke! (hopefully this is a good indication?!) Anyway, I would love to connect with other applicants, so we can worry together.

Hoping to hear back from some of you!

Maybe its just for us online/hybrid people. We have the "Nursing Process assignment" due on first day (monday 8/19) along with all the readings. People have already started doing ATIs and modules in the online program and the course hasn't even begun yet!

Okay I am in the Days program and I don't see an assignment due. We start 08/26, so a bit more time to complete the readings.

Ah, ok. We start Monday. I wonder why they start us early? We still have to go to school/clinicals on three or more days per week.

What class are you referring to?

For Nurn 153. Also, anyone know when the dosage testing is for new incoming students?

hey guys, I accidentally missed the august 16 orientation because I thought it was a repeat (I showed up to HTECH and it was... empty) ,, what should I do... noone's contacted me about it, but I'm really worried I'm in deep trouble and missed a whole bunch

What program are you in?

I don’t know if anyone is still on this feed but I’m starting the program in the spring and I wanted to see if someone could give me an idea of what the first semester looks like? How many clinicals a week and how long?

It depends on what program you're in. I'm in the evening/weekend program and our first semester looked like this:

Tu/Th- Fundamentals of Nursing 6-9; lab will be either Saturday or Sunday for the first six (?) weeks, and then clinicals were Saturday and Sunday.

Wed (unless you're enrolled in the Stevenson ATB program)- Health Assessment from 6-9, you'll alternate between lecture nights and lab nights.

First clinical is long term care. Second set is acute care. Long term care lasted 2 weekends (I’m In the evening/weekend program). Acute care lasted 3.

I’m in days at Essex, we have class Monday and Wednesday 9-12. Tuesday health assessment 9-10:30 and lab from 11-12:30 or 1-2:30, if you aren’t ATB at Towson. You have lab Thursday OR Friday 8:30-12 for the first 7 weeks and then clinical Thursday AND Friday for 7-12 pm LTC 4 days and 7-1pm AC 6 days. There are lots of days at the end of the semester get switched around and days and times are switched.

hi! i recently got accepted at essex/atb at towson. for fundamentals did you buy all of those books or just the fundamentals of nursing book? also, any tips for newcomers to the program? thanks so much in advance lol

I bought all of the books but I found them through Facebook market place for SO cheap. They are the older versions but work just fine. All the books in the packet they give at orientation are required for funds. That being said I only used them when I was sure of a topic or citing them in papers. I’ve used them the most in completing clinical paperwork. You can get by mostly with PowerPoints for the actual class. So I would suggest trying to find them all but you definitely need the funds book, nursing diagnosis, medication book, med surg. You can also find them pretty cheap as pdf.
My tips are make time for studying. The program is different than any prerequisite you have taken and you can’t study the same. As long as you put the time in studying you will be fine. And do practice questions! Definitely get the test for success and fundamentals success for test question practice!
