CCAC Spring 2010

Published

Just curious if any who have applied have heard if they've been accepted to CCAC Nursing program for Spring 2010 admittance?

Also, does anyone out there know what the likelihood is of getting your fist choice?

So it's not just me. I have found most CCAC staff difficult to talk to. A lot of them seem either incompetent or indifferent. I've found several really good teachers, but other staff not so much.

indifferent yes, I am experiencing that now with a Boyce secretary. I am hoping it is just over worked, holidays and a bunch of new students. What I find surprising is the disparity between campuses, I have been to 3 so far. At one they will try to help, another seems to be confused and the last is simply unwilling.

One thing is for sure, when I finally finish I think I want to come back and work for CCAC as a administrator, department head/supervisory role, those people are NEVER in, always 1/2 day work schedules, on vacation/day off!

Hopefully it will work out, lets be honest with the late notice we got it is very difficult if not impossible to get everything completed by the deadlines they gave.

I don't recall seeing AP2 classmates in scrubs until later in the semester, that is why I thought clinical started later in the semester. I can't get a straight answer from the campus other than "you will find out in orientation". I am clueless why there is always a mystery surrounding the nursing program that can't be just answered. I am not asking where clinical is, just when it is.

Seems strange to assume that on day 1 we as nursing students with zero knowledge would be of any benefit in a clinical environment. Isn't that why we have skills and assessment labs? to lean before we are set free in clinical?

I know I was told that clinicals at CALU start immediately. Lucky for me, my first day of class is my clinical day. Shoot me now.

I'm thinking of switching from Boyce Fast Track to Allegheny. It might be easier on my family, pocket, and stress levels to do so.

My question is - does anyone know roughly what the offered schedules were like at the Allegheny Day/Evening Weekend program? Are the days varied and around what time do the lectures, labs, and clinicals begin and end? I am going in first thing Monday morning to speak with an adviser, but I was hoping you guys could give me an early look at what I might be switching to. Also, if I take this route I won't have to cram A&P2 and Micro in with my nursing classes this semester and in the summer at Boyce.

I got the entrance requirements into the Boyce Campus on December 18th - by the skin of my teeth! I literally had a nurse reading my TB test that morning. I hope everyone else made the deadline as well.

Thanks in advance for any posts!

in a nutshell

Mon and Thurs 830a-1030 for lecture

Labs either mon or Thurs either 1030-1230 or 1230-230

Clinical 7am to 3pm, Tues, Wed, Thurs or Sat.

bottom line 3 days a week 1 short day, 1 long day and one well, depends on the lab

good luck on switching, you will need the Dean's approval if you are attempting before the start of classes. If you plan on switching out of Boyce, you need to apply for a transfer from Boyce to Allegheny, you cannot apply for the transfer until mid semester. They claim approval is on a cases by cases basis, but I understand no one is denied. They will say switching is on a space available only, be prepared to hear that push back. Looking at CCAC site, there seems to be some openings for Allegheny day.

I live by PIT airport, so I can relate to the drive,

Thanks so much for the help, I have a ton to think about. I might just try to stick out the Boyce option, finishing the program early seems to tempting to give up. But the schedule would be an incredibly positive switch. Thanks again.

candidly, I am considering switching for the Fall 2010, at that point Boyce and the fast track does little for us. We would be even with all the 2nd year students who started last fall and will graduate May 2011.

I would hope it does not matter at that point which campus we graduate from. I know they prefer people to stay with one campus for the entire program. I guess, for me it really depends what is "fast track" in Fall 2010.

So, for roughly 7 months, I will make the drive to save 5 months out of the 2 year program.

Hello everyone. My possible campus switch is being reviewed, but I would like to ask everyone when orientation for the Allegheny campus is, just so I know when to go if my transfer is approved. Looks like I'll probably be going to Boyce's orientation as well. Thanks again everyone.

Allegheny orientation is this Friday Jan 8th. It is from 9am to 3:30pm.

hi everyone,

i am considering buying the nursing central app for my ipod touch. it has a bundle package that includes davis drug guide, taber''s medical dictionary, lab and diagnostics with nursing implications, diseases and disorders manual, and medline. has anyone else checked this out...can we use this in clinical setting..just wondering if it's a good investment?

I am in the same boat as you, I start at Boyce next week for NRN 101

I bought it for my Ipod touch a few days ago, regardless of use in a clinical setting I saw the value in lab and in a classroom setting. I have gathered that when we write our plans, we are not always in the clinical setting anyway.

I will add at the time, the discount code GIFT09 made it worth while (I have no idea if it works still), brought the price down to $125, some of the reviews suggest to add the .99 DxSaurus as well.

Bottom line, I don't know enough to pass judgment whether is it a sound investment. All I can say is it is another layer of utilities that you can draw from when you don't have the books or a internet connection handy. That alone made the decision for me to purchase it.

Thanks for the code :) My mind is made...I need all of the extra resources that I can get my hand on!

Good luck..study hard

Alisa
