Hey!
Is anyone applying for the RN program that starts Fall 2011?
I'm going to apply for South. Last I checked, they didn't have the application packets yet. I hope they get them soon! Do other campuses have them?
It would be great to get some discussion started. Thanks everyone!
Well my head is spinning today. I have been looking ahead to what I need to get. I was told by several of my nurse friends to only get the two required books (fundamentals and the nutrition book) and a good med dictionary. They all said to add the others as I go along. I think I will do that. Uniforms (scrubs, etc) will all be specific because of the emblem. That will all be in the packet and orientation material.
Now I am thinking ahead to getting either an ipad, kindle, think pad or a net book. I have an android phone but I dont like that itty bitty screen. I think it will be helpful for clinical stuff based on what I have read but for classes I dont want to lug my lap top with me. Since I am always waiting on kids somewhere for rides, games, practices, etc - I think some kind of electronic aid advice might be nice for taking ALL my study materials without lugging everything.
Nice thing is, my one daughter will be one year behind me in the program hopefully. At least we will be familiar with everything when she gets to this point.
Anyone else in Allegheny day? Message me!

My head is spinning too! I've been looking into CPR classes, physical, etc.
That's a great idea about the ebooks. How does that work exactly? I once had an eBook, but I could only access it by going online. So if I was anywhere without an internet connection, I couldn't get to it. My husband has an iPad but hasn't bought ebooks for classes. Can you actually download them to the iPad and access them anywhere, anytime, even without internet access?
If anyone finds any deals on stuff (like where to get a physical, titers, etc) or advice on anything let us know!

I got this information from previous posts from students of spring 2011 [Physicals (Med Express $20), Drug Tests (South Hills Med Build / Jefferson Regional Medical Center Campus $35), CPR (Red Cross CPR (412) 263-3100), FBI Fingerprinting( pa.contentid.com/index - go to the Dep. of Welfare.) Testing Titter & Vac. (STD Clinic, Local VNA / Health Dep and Walmart clinic)
hope that is helpful;)
I'm going to wait for the packet to come before I set anything up for appointments. My son has to take CPR for lifeguarding so I guess we will be doing a mother/son class!
One of my nurse friends gave me a stethoscope and some of the books in small handbook reference form. I am now, officially, super excited!
thank you for your concern and kind words.:) yes it can be a little slow. i still haven't recieved it. hopefully today. i will update either way.
