Hello,
Is anyone else in the process of applying for CCAC for fall? Right now I'm waiting for the office to finish pulling up all of my transcripts and paperwork so that I can turn in my application. I'm doing the LPN to RN, so if I get accepted I should be graduating with the class that is currently in the program. Anyone else doing LPN to RN? I'm hoping to be accepted at Allegheny. That's where I've done all of my prereq classes. My second choice is South Campus.
Got the book list today from Boyce. Wow there are a lot of books for the first semester.
I KNOW. I came here to see if there is anyone who knows if there were books we absolutely did not need. I can't afford all this. This is completely out of hand. . .I also have to pay my tuition in cash so there is just no way.
$1029 in books is insane!
I'm scouring the internet looking for better pricing and have been moderately successful.
But I'm not clear on what is in the "NUR-110 Kit" or the "NUR-110 (WAS NRN-101) ATI CARP PKG".
Both of the ISBN numbers are bogus - CCAC bookstore bulls**t.
I know the Kit includes a stethoscope and a penlight - so $187.50 seems a bit steep. What else is in the kit?
I've found a couple ATI nursing book series. ATI RN Review Module (books only). And ATI NurseNotes - various titles, about $30/each. What do we need?
So far, I've only saved around $100 off of the Bookstore price. Mainly because I'm only looking at new books. But, if I knew what I was looking for on the Kit / ATI books, I'm sure I could do a little better.
BTW - Barnes and Nobel has the $489 package for $440. Factor in some gas perks savings if you use a Giant Eagle gift card, and you're saving about $75.
Any help on the Kit ATI guides would be appreciated!

I'm at South Campus in the day program.
I was banking on about $500, too.
Between the costs for tuition, the uniform, shoes, drug test, blood tests, PPD's and the physical, $1,000 for texts is out of the question. But I'm anxious to get them and get started!
I'm going to case the bookstore today. Hopefully they have the ATI books so I can sneak an ISBN, or maybe scope out the "kit" contents!
DO NOT BUY ATI books anywhere else! You need to pay for the actual logins for them - hence the money must go to ATI directly. You can buy the used books to get the books early but they are useless for the semester because you have to have that login to take the required ATI tests online. Just wanted to make sure you knew that before you spent money on worthless books!
The bag is a tote bag and not sure what all is in it. The south campus library did not have them as of a few weeks ago.
The book store at south told me the "bundle" of books would be around $900 - not sure if that included the tote bag or not. They were not in yet. Hoping they are soon so I can get my daughter her set and get everything she needs with no surprises.
I dont think that ATI was included in that. I dont remember. I know the ati books are usually in the $150 area. My first semester they were included in tuition. There was a tuition increase so they backed them out so it didnt look as expensive. We all had to come up with $130 for the ati books/log ins.
Thanks. Sewnmom. I wasn't planning on buying used for anything that had online supplemental stuff. But there are several different ATI book groupings (ATI RN Review Modules, RNotes, etc) as well as the various categories, (Peds, Med/Surg, Pharmacology,etc.). I've found some deals on Amazon, etc. but I haven't got a clue if it's what we're supposed to be getting.
I went to the bookstore yesterday. Nothing in and no useful information on the ATI books or the mystery "Kit", except to tell me that there are, yet, more books in the kit.
I'm beginning to get a bit anxious. 5 texts, (one with two volumes) 2 lab books, 5 syllabus, 1 dictionary, two "Prep U" online whats-its and a video. Plus the ATI's and whatever books they've got in the kit. My god. That's a LOT of reading!
BTW ~ I have a daughter at CCAC, too. Not in nursing, however. She's starting her second year in August. Thought you might like to know you have a peer (age-wise) just entering the program.
Cheers
