CCAC - Evening/Weekend

I attended CCAC South campus in their evening and weekend program. I know that it is not one of your choices but I can offer some information as far as our scheduling. First year class was Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 930 if I remember correctly. This was lecture and skills lab on Tuesday and lecture and assessment lab on Thursday. All clinicals were Saturday from 6:30 AM to 2:30. In second semester while we were doing the OB rotation there were 2 or 3 3PM-11 Saturday shifts. Second year class was Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 730. THere was also a lab after lecture either Monday or Wednesday. Clinicals were either Thursday evening AND Saturday morning or Saturday and Sunday 630-230. The final 5 weeks however you must follow your mentoring nurse's schedule. I had to work 7P to 7A a lot. I am in Allegheny evening/weekend program right now. Here's what our schedule has looked like so far. (I'm finishing up my first year)

101 Lecture - Tues 5:30-8:00

Lab - Wed 5:00-9:00

Clinical - Wed 3-11 or Sat 7-3

102 Lecture - T 5:00-7:30

Lab - 5-6 or 6-7 or 7-8

Clinical - Fri 3-11 or Sat 7-3 or Sun 7-3

Working until 4:30 and attending the evening program is possible the first year. Keep in mind, though, that they have restructured the program for the incoming classes. If they keep it relatively the same you should be fine the first year. The second year, though, you will have clinical 2 days a week which means you would work M-F and have clinical both Sat/Sun. You probably won't be able to keep your schedule the last semester, though, because like the previous poster said you will be following your mentor's schedule. Are you able to select whether you want clinicals on the weekends or are they randomly assigned? I don’t care if I have clinicals all weekend and have to drive to Timbuktoo to get there. I just leave my job until after I finish the first semester and can work in a hospital as a tech.

At South we were given the choice for Sat/Sun come second year. It was however just a request and some people were not granted the selection.

Yes, for the second year you are able to choose whether you want Th/Fri or Sat/Sun clinicals. The director of the program seems to be giving everyone their preference. They do their best to give you what you want.

How many people are accepted into fast track during spring? Does anyone know ?

I picked up my nursing app last week and was informed there is NOT going to be a fast track session this spring. They will take the 80 available seats & split them evenly between the other Spring campuses. Fast track will only be available in the Fall starting in 2013.

I am in the allegheny evening and weekend program. My clinical for first semester is 3-11 wed and for spring its friday 7-3pm...we go night before to the hosp to get our patient assignment
