Caught Sleeping on Night Shift

Updated:   Published

Dear Nurse Beth,

I was caught sleeping on a HH night shift. Will I lose my license?

Dear Caught Sleeping,

I certainly hope not if this was an isolated event, and I don't think so. The only way there might be a sanction is if the employer reported you to the Board of Nursing in your state.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth

Specializes in NICU.

If it is my break then it is none of your business what I do,most have small children and need that power nap at break time during night shift. We always fought and held our ground to close the door and turn out the light during OUR BREAK.

That hospital administrator that harassed a nurses aide for sleeping in a wheelchair DURING her break should be hung by her nails.Im glad they always had the worst turnover.

You do not own us,my break is my break .

The point I had hoped to make as the OP was what I consider to be the double standard on the part of the nurses. I noted that the nurses complained about my clerical staff person falling asleep at her desk, while they felt it was fine for them to do so.

No one seemed to get that point so I assume I wasn’t clear.
