hi there, though i would take a minute to introduce myself to you all. Ive recently been offered a job at Casa Grande Regional Medical Centre, my provisional starting date is December 31st 2006.
I have a job on the med/surg floor, working night shifts. I believe there a few of us from England starting there at various times.
Im really looking forward to coming to AZ, if anyone has any advice for me i would be greatful, im sure some of the other nurses about to relocate would too!
thanks

I was born and raised in Casa Grande. It's a great place to raise a family. It's a small town with plenty of charm.
A new middle school was built about 2-3 years ago, I haven't been inside but the outside looks nice. The high school is decent.
It's not a dusty, unpleasant, poor town. If you compare it to Scottsdale, then yeah it might look poor. This town mostly consists of middle working class families. There is a "poor" part of town, but doesn't every city have one? I can't believe how much it has grown in the last 10 years. It's not that small of a town anymore.
As for the hospital, I didn't think it was that great of a hospital until I started doing my clinicals at a phoenix area hospital, come to find out that Casa Grande hospital is actually a very nice hospital (cosmetically speaking). The majority of the nurses are very helpful, understanding, and fun to be around. Then there are those nurses that you just want to stay away from (once again isn't every place like that?). It's a good size hospital, no trauma if anything serious happens they get flown to phoenix. It slows down during the summer because all of the "snow birds" have gone home.
I can't think of anything else to add right now, if you have any other questions just let me know I will love to help you out.

rnmom3153: you may do better by starting your own thread with that question. I personally don't know anything about applying for a license here since I'm still in nursing school.
As for our UK friend....I live in Tempe as Stopnik referred to and love it. I think you would do well to try out the area close to Casa Grande first and see how you like it. I have heard, though, that the schools in the area are some of the worst. Beware. On a brighter note, my sister lived in Maricopa (which is nearby) for 15+ years and loved it. There's lots to do in Phoenix and the surrounding areas. We have many concerts that come to town and now have professional baseball, as well as football and our illustrious basketball team. The weather is very hot in the summer but the spring and fall (and winter for that matter) make up for it. My only recommendation to you would be to invest in lots of sunscreen for you and your family
You are gonna need it.....
