Carrying all that stuff to clinicals . . .

Published

So, I've started accumulating my items for clinical . . . bandage scissors, stethoscope, clipboard, pen light, different colored pens, sharpie, PDA . . . other stuff I'm forgetting. Don't forget any books I might need!!

So, what do you carry all your stuff in when you go to clinicals?? Is there some neato bag out there for this purpose? I really don't want to go to my first clinical at the hospital carrying my school bag on my back!

Any suggestions??

Last Christmas I received one of those nursing pocket organizers. It has a little pocket for cash, and then velcro straps for hemostats and bandage scissors (I haven't lost a pair, and everyone who has borrowed has returned them - must be the pink velco tag) plus spots for pens, penlight, marker and chapstick (an absolute must).

Lots of girls have those fold-away clipboards where they store stuff - i prefer a clipboard with a calculator and lots of medical info on it. And I label my name with everything! Last week my drug book went missing - even though it was well marked - so this time I am going to try my PDA and just keep it in my pocket. My stethoscope has a little beaded bracelet with my name on it, but I usually keep it in my pocket or around my neck. I bring stuff in an old canvas bag, but bring very little for reference, and since my drug book grew legs, I will be bringing even less. After all, there is no time clinical day to look up anything but meds - the rest of it we do later. Mostly, if it doesn't fit in a pocket, I don't bring it. And yes, I have had trouble keeping my pants up if I load them with too much stuff!:p
