Carpal/Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Published

Has anyone gone through or have known someone that has gone through nursing school with carpal tunnel or cubital tunnel syndrome? I start my actual nursing courses in August, but if this brace and medication don't work, I may need surgery. I've just worked so hard to get to this point that I don't want to delay becoming a nurse any longer. If anyone could share their experience, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I had good luck with the Dr Grip pens. But they smear sometimes. Just look for a pen with a bigger barrel.

My teachers haven't said anything but I don't know if they even notice when I wear a brace to class.

Are we allowed to discuss medication side effects in this manner? I know medical advice is not allowed. Don't want to violate TOS. I better look before I say anything.

I know that medical advice is not allowed, I only asked if it makes you drowsy like it does to me, so that's not really asking for medical advice. I've read the TOS and I didn't see anything about not discussing medication side effects. On the other hand, thanks for your previous input and for letting me know about the pens.

I'm pretty sure you can talk about what your personal experience has been because that's not giving advice. :-)

I wasn't sure, so caution seemed best. To answer your question gabapentin has made me feel very sleepy, confused and disconnected, to the point I had to stop taking it. It also made me dizzy. I would misjudge walls or corners and walk into them.

Ibuprofen doesn't have that effect for me. I prefer to use icyhot, or anther topical, to try to save my stomach lining. I'm prone to ulcers. :/

Oh wow that is horrible. I'm glad I haven't had those side effects with the gabapentin, but then again, it could be because I'm always asleep shortly after taking it. I don't take it as much nor the ibuprofen, only when I feel like I need it. Oh and yes it is good to be cautious, thank you for sharing your experience.

Do you take gabapentin PRN? I was prescribed 300mg 3X/day. It seemed like I would be just starting to feel better and would be due for the next dose. And it didn't help with my hands at all. Just the overall mild, persistent pain that I experience.
