Published

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is safe to give Demerol IV in carpaject form if the vial has been dropped. Can glass get into the solution? Please answer!!!!

That is good...we sometimes use the stick end of a mouth swab...obviously a clean one...

ugh, our SICU doesn't even stock carpujects anymore...i floated there and asked for one...they phased them out due to costs and i was told to just use a straw or the end of a mouth swab! My, don't I look professional pushing meds with a straw! ha.

I know a colleague who uses a filter needle to draw med out of the carpuject injector. Doesn't seem to make sense to me as I think it defeats the whole purpose of having preloaded syringes - but hey, I know it works :)

I keep one on my person. End of shift, it goes into my locker. I don't leave it lying around ;)

Myself....

My pharmacy dept has them available on request. I wish I'd have known that before I bought a half-dozen on my own :uhoh21:

They can be bought online for about 15 cents apiece. (Cheap-azz hospitals!)

I just draw it up in a syringe. All of our narcotics and labetalol are carpuject. We don't have the things to administer though.
