Hello,
I am requiring supervised practice; 225 hours to be exact, in order to meet requirements to have my license reinstated (along w/other courses, etc).
This is basically due to overall limited experience and having it under suspension b/c of loss of a job. (b/c of lack of experience despite having done the entire refresher course successfully and getting my license back 3 yrs ago!)
SO....I am wondering if anyone could provide suggestions as to how to approach supervisors to request this! It seems like a very difficult thing, as I have requested this to a few already and was unsuccessful!
Any ideas appreciated!!!!!!!!:)

I've known people who completed the refresher and had no difficulty in finding a job.
Maybe the people you are approaching are put off by the fact you completed the refresher three years ago? Why the delay in looking to get this all done? Employers may see this as no desire to commit to an organization.
You are also in a job market with fresh, new grads who want to find a job right away.
Hi Fiona and thanks for the reply. I think you misunderstood; I did work after I got my license back after the refresher: but I lost that job and then b/c i called and explained my loss of job and my history i was asked to surrender my license and not practice until I jump through a lot of hoops (still am), in order to have my license reinstated; one being that I have to find a new employer that will supervise my practice for 225 hours; which is the question; how do i approach/ask a agency/supervisor for this ??
Thanks

CRNBC required me to complete 250 hours of supervised practice prior to obtaining full licensure because I'm an IEN. I sent out my resume to every facility I can. I made calls, talked to nursing managers and anybody I know that worked anywhere that employed a nurse. I wasn't just looking to complete my hours though. I wanted a job, but no one wanted to hire a nurse without a full practicing license. I heard about others who volunteered their hours and contacted CRNBC about it. I was told by CRNBC that they do not recommend anyone volunteering for their hours, but they will count the hours. It wasn't easy and took a bit, but I now have my practicing license and employed as an RN. If CARNA will allow it and if you don't mind working for free, that could be an option for you. Goodluck =)

It's highly unlikely that CARNA would consider volunteer hours for their supervised practice requirement, any more than it's likely that any employer or facility would allow an unlicensed nurse to provide care as a volunteer, supervised or not. The liability is just too great to be acceptable. Colleges of nursing will recognize volunteer hours forregistered nurses when it comes to practice hours for ongoing registration.
It is highly unlikely, but I was able to do it. I passed the CRNE before all of it too, maybe that made a difference.
Hi and thanks for the responses. I should clarify that I am 'eligible for registration with Carna' ..does that mean anything different from not being licensed at all?
