Career Day Suggestions

Published

Hi, I'm new to this message board. I'm posting to see if anyone out there has any ideas that would be helpful to me. I am scheduled to speak to Fifth graders at their school's career fair about nursing. I have a 20 minute time slot. I'm interested in hearing any suggestions of how to make a nursing career interesting to this age group. As there are so many different opportunities and such a large variety of specific areas in nursing I need to be able to narrow it down and present it in a way that fifth graders will understand and find interesting.

If anyone has done this before or anyone has any thoughts or ideas, I would love to read about them. Thanks in advance!

I did that before several times. I started out by asking them if any of them watch ER or other medical shows? Quite a few did and I asked them if they thought that was exciting or interesting? I took it from there. I had quite a few questions each time, mostly about gore LOL, but it was nice. Wear something nursey like scrubs and you will have their attention I think.

That sounds like a fun way to spend time! 5th graders are hilarious, I love that age!(mother of a teenager here..). Theres a site that has info for this, I think its the ANA or one of those, called "Ambassador for nursing" or somthing similar.

Hi. I am also new to this. I just read your post. If you can recall (I know its been a couple of yrs), what did you do for your presentation. I am doing the same thing, also to fifth graders in a few days and would also like some ideas. Thanks:nurse:.
