Cardiology III vs. master cardiology stethoscope

Published

Hi nursing friends,

So I'm a new grad who just started in the CVICU at a large level I trauma/academic medical center. I'm looking to trade in my base model littman stethoscope I used in nursing school because I want a better one and of course one that's personalized with my name and RN and a pretty color ;) just curious what you guys would recommend, I'm torn between the cardiology III and the master cardiology. I've heard mixed reviews on both. Thanks! :)

Just remember if you don't know what you listening too then it doesn't matter what fancy stethoscope you have. I can hear murmur just as good with a disposable isolation scope as i can with my master cardiology.

From my experience, many nurses either don't have a clue what they are listening to, are too busy to care, or they just can't hear it to start with. But the bottom line is that if it's easier to hear then most nurses can tell if something DOESN'T SOUND NORMAL.

I think for the most part the Cardiology III is the best buy. YOu can hear mostly everything. There are some subtlies you might miss but unless that is your only focus....the master can be difficult to use applying just enough pressure to hear the high and low sounds.

To get bang for your buck...cardiology III...it is a workhorse

I got the cardiology III. It sounds very clear to me. Much better than the things they had at my school which were awful. Mine is purple with a rainbow finish bell and my name on it. Very pretty!

Remember, you can deduct the price of your stethoscope on your income taxes, in the same place where you deduct your uniform and other work-related expenses. (Of course, check with your tax professional.)

I am old fashioned, but I love my Littmann cardiology II that I've had for years and years and I would never give it up. It's no longer available, but they do appear on ebay from time to time and are highly sought after. New doesn't always mean better!
