Cape Fear Valley Medical Center New Grad program

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi everyone. I am a new BSN grad who recently moved to Fayetteville from Los Angeles. Does anyone know approximately how often CFVMC opens their new grad program? I am extermely interested in this organization and was wondering if application periods are as needed, annual or semi annual et cetera...thank you!

My sister is in the new grad program there. I believe it's twice yearly....for July start and January although I could be wrong on the January one, but I do know there is a second cycle somewhere around that time.

Awesome thanks for the info...do you know what your sister thinks of the program as a whole?

Lots of floors let you just apply for RN positions. If you want to start working right away, just apply for floor positions directly that don't say "must have 1 year experience." Applying directly avoids the contract that comes with the residency as well.

The new grad residency opens applications in late Sept/early Oct for Jan/Feb start. The fall class just went through orientation and will be starting in the next few weeks. You have to sign a contract saying you'll work for the hospital for two years AFTER the residency is over (Jan start, residency over in June, have to work two years from June to satisfy contract). If you leave before the time is up, you have to pay the hospital back a certain amount.

Be aware that a lot of floors work in tracks so you don't get to pick your schedule, AND many floors have mandatory overtime scheduled every other week.

pooh1258- Thanks for the information. What does a 'track' mean? I don't like the thought of not picking my schedule. How much mandatory overtime, a few hours or a whole extra shift?

pooh 1258 thanks for the heads up...one question though...i also am not familiar with 'tracks'? Can you explain those? I am not too worried about the overtime and as for as the schedule do you know if switching shifts etc is permitted? Not to be overtly personal but were you/are you in the residency? If so i would love to here about your experience. Please pm me if you are more comfortable!

I just got hired on there and I only had 2 years psych experience. You don't have to wait for a residency. I got two offers right off the bat in acute care. Some units self schedule. Just apply to a bunch and ask about the scheduling at your interviews. On my unit, you can swap and theres one week you work 3 shifts, the next you work 4. Nurses work 2 weekends a month.

I forgot to mention I also came from CA, bay area, I was soooo frustrated with not being able to get hired onto an acute care hospital out there. I moved my whole family here just for the experience even though its half the salary I got in CA as a psych nurse. CA left such a bad taste in my mouth because of this!

Did you get the job?

Also what took you to Fayetteville? If you are interested in working in Raleigh....the pay is a bit better here, esp if you want to work weekends.

I have been a paramedic for 20+ years, graduated in August with MSN. Applied to Cape fear and was told they only hire new grads into the residency program and to apply to that. However Friday I got a call asking me to call them about an interview. Did they change the policy or did my resume just catch someone attention?
