I just started pre-reqs for an LPN program ans work FT in an office. This is what I get today: We are out of creamer-get on that(STAT!). Give me a break...how important is that?? If you HAVE to have it go to the grocery store!! Give me some one who is bleeding, or coding or something-now THAT is an emergency. Do any of you have ridiculous "EMERGENCIES"?
Originally posted by mstewartThanks for the warm reply. I would assume that working as a nurse-any orders that are given will be for the patient, and will be for something they can't do themselves or for something they need. If a family member wants lotion put on the patients legs, they can do it. Don't worry, your sarcasm won't kill my exitement for nursing. I know I have "reality" in store for me when I get in the field, I would like to think that MOST orders are more important than making sure people have cream for their coffee.
Sadly your asumptions are not on the mark. I would like to think as you also. However, the sorry fact is physicians, patients, family members, people in general too often actually believe they are the most important person alive.
Honey on more than one occasion patients and family members have felt that it was more important that you get them a glass of water this second than to respond to the code in the next room.
UH, OH! You shouldn't have opened the "weird STAT orders" can of worms! We can really have fun with this one! I got a STAT order for a wound culture one night. I obtained the culture and took it with the physican written lab slip down to the lab. When the lab tech read the slip, he went ahead and processed the culture, put it in the incubator, and sternly told it to "Grow FAST!"
