Can't land a job on labor and delivery

Published

Hi everyone,

I am trying very hard to land a job on the labor and delivery unit. I live in an area where I only have 2 choices for this floor and the turn over is low. I apply as soon as I notice an opening but I've only been lucky enough to get 1 interview. This interview was almost 4 weeks ago and I followed up but she said she is still doing interviews. I don't feel like I got the job though and i'm very bummed. I've been a nurse going on 3 years and have to take jobs that I'm honestly not interested in. I love nursing as a whole but I truly want to be where I feel I belong. I finally joined AWOHNN yesterday and I'm currently looking for a place to get my NRP certification to hopefully boost my chances. There are about 2 other hospitals about an hour away that I'm considering applying to but I don't want to travel since I won't be getting the "traveling salary" and I have 3 kids.

Any advice would seriously be appreciated. I need to get this job. ):

Whoohoo! Congratulations! I hope it's what you're looking for! :)

Just curious...how are you liking the new job??? I have an interview tomorrow for an L&D position and I am super nervous. I have been trying to get a job in L&D since I graduated over a year ago and I finally landed an interview.

It's amazing. It's so much to learn and I'm honestly overwhelmed but it feels good to finally do something I knew I'd love!

I have an L & D interview tomorrow it will also be a transfer for me as I've been doing 2 years med/surg/oncology in the same hospital any tips?!

Just be confident and show you are interested. Ask lots of questions and ask to shadow afterwards. I've been there 8 weeks and I'm still so overwhelmed. I thought my year in oncology and year in medsurg would help me but it's been rough. I still love it though. Good luck (:

Hi there!

I'm not sure if you'll see this but could you update us on how the job turned out? Are you still practicing in the same position? If so, have you gained anymore tips on how to break into an L&D role?

Thank You!
